ICYMI: Romney associated with Russell Pearce and Scott Walker

In case you missed it last week, Willard "Mittens" Romney was associated with Arizona's nativist and disgraced recalled Sen. Russell Pearce, and soon-to-be-recalled Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker.

In an interview last week, Russell Pearce said he's endorsing Mitt Romney in the November elections, in part because of Romney's position on illegal immigration.

“His immigration policy is identical to mine,” Pearce said. “Attrition by enforcement. It’s identical to mine – enforce the laws. We have good laws, just enforce them.”  Racist numbskull Russell Pearce says Mitt Romney's immigration policy 'identical to mine' (Meteor Blades at Daily Kos):

"I don’t want to take credit for being there and helping him write it, but much of his policy was modeled—by people who I’ve worked with—after my legislation."

[Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach (R), who played an instrumental role in authoring illegal immigration laws including SB 1070 in Arizona, has served as a Romney adviser since the beginning of this year.]

Romney backers might quibble and argue that their candidate hasn't directly endorsed Pearce's law. But the candidate's "self-deportation" stance is, as Felicia Sonmez writes, the "idea at the root of SB 1070."

So far, the Romney campaign itself is not arguing with Pearce's characterization. Still, apparently, running their calculators.

In Wisconsin, Mittens called Scott Walker his "hero." No, really. The Obama campaign provided Greg Sargent with a statement asking where Romney stands:

“As he campaigned across Wisconsin, Mitt Romney repeatedly praised Governor Scott Walker’s leadership, calling him a ‘hero’ and ‘a man of courage’. But with his signing yesterday of a bill make it harder for women to enforce in court their right to equal pay, Walker showed how far Republicans are willing to go to undermine not only women’s health care, but also their economic security. Does Romney think women should have ability to take their bosses to court to get the same pay as their male coworkers? Or does he stand with Governor Walker against this?”
