Before delving into the commentary, let’s give credit and congratulations to Democratic Socialist Dr. Abdul El-Sayed for his less-than-one-point victory in the Michigan Senate Primary over Pragmatic Progressive House Representative Haley Stevens, the candidate with an actual progressive voting track record.
A gifted politician who knows how to deliver speeches and strike many of the right knee-jerk reaction notes in his calls for getting money out of politics and Medicare for All, he now has the task of unifying the party among his, Stevens’, and Mallory McMorrow’s supporters so he can plow ahead and hopefully permanently retire Republican Senate nominee Mike Rogers back to his retirement home in Florida.
The task, with him as the nominee, will be more difficult to hold the Senate seat for Democrats than with Stevens on the ballot.
That said, he is the winner, and voters in Michigan will have to choose whether they want the Democratic nominee who will work for the people or the Republican one who embraces Trumpian Fascism, denies science, and protects pedophiles and wife beaters.
Objectively, Michiganders really have no hard choice here.
That said, those who think the El-Sayed victory is historic and very impressive should remember this.
He did not break 50 percent with his victory.
Haley Stevens would probably be the Democratic Senate Nominee today if Mallory McMorrow had withdrawn from the race before they printed the ballots. McMorrow earned four percent of the vote. Given her political leanings, it is reasonable to postulate that most of those votes would have gone to Stevens if her name were not on the ballot.
So Dr. El-Sayed should be sending lots of roses to McMorrow today.
Mainstream Democrats also shot themselves in the foot when they could not nudge one of their Pragmatic Progressive candidates out of the Michigan Seventh Congressional District race, which went to Democratic Socialist William Lawrence, who garnered just under 44 percent of the vote.
Mainstream Democrats are probably going to repeat this mistake in the Wisconsin Gubernatorial Primary Race.
Go to Missouri, and Wesley Bell, who ran without any mainstream opponent, trounces Cori Bush by over 20 points for the second time in two cycles.
So, to say there is a Democratic Socialist wave coming is probably premature.
Dr. El-Sayed has a lot of work to do.
He needs to make the Stevens/McMorrow majority wing of the party comfortable with voting for him.
That means gaining support among older voters, black voters, non-college-educated voters (the ones the pollsters apparently did not talk to), and Pro-Israel voters who think he is too one-sided on what is happening in Gaza.
One way he could do that is to publicly come out for a two-state solution, call for the arrest of any Palestinian and Israeli leaders and functionaries who committed human rights violations against Jews and Arabs in Gaza, Israel, and the West Bank, and cut off his bromance with the reputed Anti-Semite Hasan Piker.
He does all of that, and the path to victory probably becomes easier.

Haley Stevens is more “Vote Blue No Matter Who” than most of the Democrat Party and pretty much ALL of the MSM.
“In a statement released after media outlets projected El-Sayed as the winner, Stevens praised her former rival and called for party unity ahead of the general election.
โI want to congratulate Abdul El-Sayed on winning the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate. He is a doctor, a community health official, a Rhodes Scholar, and a dedicated Michigander. I am proud to offer my support as he takes on Mike Rogers in the general election,โ Stevens said.
According to CNN, Stevens also called El-Sayed to concede the race.
Reflecting on the closely contested primary, Stevens said: โThat is why we have primaries. I am proud to have put up my hand to serve, and prouder to continue to work together to make sure this Senate seat remains blue, that we flip the United States Senate and continue the work for Michigan.โ”
A lot of Dems and various phony third parties (fuck you Third Way) moaning about “electability” (because Dems are sooooo good at winning) will literally be working to elect Republicans.
Oh, yeah, and beware wolves in sheep’s clothing, like the Lincoln Project.
The underlying premise that Morrow voters, if not given that choice, would have supported Stevens,, may be flawed.
The simple fact is that an outside group tried to interfere in a primary. Voters don’t like that when it happens.
Steven’s huge AIPAC expenditures in her favor and some Dems unequivocal support for the Bibi government, no matter what war crimes they commit, had more to do with Abdul votes than McMorrow’s. American’s can be against blind support for the Bibi government, without the nonsense of being accused of wanting the destruction of Israel. And this is one issue many Repubs and Dems can agree on now. The settler genocide in the West Bank is another war crime.
I hope this doesn’t end up as another pathetic example of the Democratic leadership eating its own because they don’t like the peoples choice.
Remember Tim Ryan’s Senate campaign? He was critical of the Democratic leadership and they wouldn’t fund him. The GOP saw the opportunity and JD Vance won the Ohio seat. Brilliant, absolutely brilliant.
It’s time for the know it all establishment Democrats to get behind the people’s choices and support those candidates like there’s no tomorrow.
The GOP is already smearing Mr el-Sayed because that’s what they do. Don’t play their game. Respect the voters and their choices.
But he was not the people’s choice. Most of the primary voters voted against him.
According to Wikipedia Tim Ryan the 2022 Senate primary with nearly 70% of the vote.

I was talking about Dr. El-Sayed.
Nonetheless, though a slim majority he still won his primary. Now is the time for all good Democrats to rally to his support.
How exactly do you vote against someone?
Is there a checkbox on the ballot Iโve been missing?
I think you have to write in Jill Stein.
LOL! ๐
Stein is a pretty good con artist, but sheโs no Kirsten Sinema. ๐
That’s how our voting system works; it is pluralist, not strictly majoritarian. We could do run-off if no get about 50% in the first round, but MI doesn’t. that doesn’t deligitimate the winner.
The downplaying of El-Sayed’s win is in high gear across the corprate media, but FYI ya’all, El-Sayed was outspent nine to one.
NINE TO ONE!
And he still won. He won against millions in oppo spending.
Liars calling him a commie and other lies lost.
This is a win to be celebrated and it’s a rare event in recent history that makes you want to stand up and yell “America, fuck yeah!”.
Unironically, ironically enough. ๐
Change won’t be easy or come fast enough, but it’s coming, in spite of what wealthy donors want.
I put a question mark in my sway-doh-nim because I’m feeling click-baity today.
“A gifted politician who knows how to deliver speeches and strike many of the right knee-jerk reaction notes in his calls for getting money out of politics and Medicare for All,…”
He ran on money out of politics and healthcare?
Good lord, I had no idea he was such a dick!
You can tell DSA policies are good for Americans, because establishment-corporate-surrender Dems are losing their shit, and their corporate owned “liberal” media are sounding like Fox News.
“Oh, sure, he won, but….”
Talk about dismissing voters. Voters Dems need, BTW.
Next, anyone who wants Medicare for All will be tossed into the Basket of Deplorables.
Neoliberals won’t go away on their own or anytime soon, we’ll need to flip the light switch a few times before they get the hint and realize the party is over.
So much for “Vote blue no matter who”. Establishment Democrats love that phrase but lose it when their who is told to shoo.
Still, Hayley Stevens has the class to offer her support to Abdul El-Sayed. Gets that the real enemy is the bought and paid for Repugs. Hope she follows through!
Because of Socialist Democrats winning primaries clowns like James Carville is threatening to leave the Democratic Party. Good!
James Carville is NOT a liberal, progressive, or even a Democrat.
He’s trash, a political whore, he hasn’t won a US election since 1999 and he’s been working in Peru and other countries because they pay better.
“So why go to New Jersey and lose for 100 grand when you can go to Peru and lose for a million?”
Wow, talk about moral convictions!
He’s said and done some absolutely disgusting, horrific things in his career, he’s a big reason politics in the USA suck, and I have no idea why anyone pays any attention to him.
He’s a POS.
Gawdamn I wish people, especially the press, would take a minute to look up who they’re talking to.
Haley Stevens was the establishement choice because she promised to vote Schumer as majority leader, and Schumer is a top ten reason Dems have such a low approval rating.
Schumer is the poster boy for D’s and R’s being two cheeks of the same ass.
Not to mention he is barely intelligible.
And like clockwork Third Way & Welcome Pac is already out of the gate trashing El-Sayed:

This just reinforces the impression these centrist dipshits would rather see a Repug win than a Progressive. Over the past 40 years the “Overton Window” has shifted so far to the right that centrist Democrats are now Republican Lite. Who more often that not go on to lose to extremist Repugs.
What will it take for it to penetrate these thick skulls that the enemy is the Repugs and not Democratic Socialists?
Yeah, the DSA is pretty much running on an FDR platform and these corporate plants call that “radical”. LOL.
Dems say it’s too risky to vote for DSA candidates, we need to protect the current system, while ALSO telling us our current system is leading us to fascism.
BTW, the DSA is not actually “socialist”, words matter, but you know who was?
Albert Einstein.
E=Dems Have Lost the Plot. ๐
“What will it take for it to penetrate these thick skulls that the enemy is the Repugs and not Democratic Socialists?”
I know this one!
Wealty donors want their tax breaks and subsidies and they pay for results.
DSA candidates don’t seem interested in helping rich folks get richer, and the very, very well paid consultants, “think” tanks, and PACs rich parasites fund are scared of losing their meal tickets.
So they will say and do anything, outright lie, to dismiss anyone who threatens their gravy train.
It’s money. In America, the answer is always money.
