In a Series of Short Video Posts, Kris Mayes Highlights the META Deal and Warren Petersen’s corruption and Support for Medicaid Cuts

Kris Mayes and her teams at the Arizona Attorney’s Office and Re-Election Campaign have been busy.

In the last week, the Arizona Attorney General celebrated the positive results of her joint action with other states in securing a $17.1 billion settlement agreement with META, the organization that runs Facebook, Threads, and Instagram, complete with new safety regulations for minors.

In a press release, on the META deal, Attorney General Mayes reported:

“For years, Meta pushed products on young people that were designed to addict them, despite the known risks and harms. The company then misled the public about the safety of their products to keep their profits flowing. This settlement marks a sea change in the way we regulate the use of social media platforms by young people. One day, we’ll look back on today as the beginning of the end of the ‘bad old days,’ when children had unfettered access to products designed to addict them and expose them to serious mental harm.”

She also announced her vigorous defense of Proposition 308, the voter-passed measure that allows Dreamers to pay in-state tuition for college, writing in a press release:

“The federal government has now sued 21 states for letting Dreamers who attended school in places like Arizona be able to afford a college education at our state’s community colleges and universities. Fundamentally, this is about states’ rights, and I will vigorously defend Arizona’s right to set its own rules, especially ones that are passed by voters themselves.”

She also touted yet another ruling in the state’s favor governing the use of mail in balloting and temporarily blocking the Trump Administration’s haphazard attempts to use the postal service to improve its regulations on it, saying in a press release:

“This is a win for every Arizona voter and the rule of law. Arizonans have voted safely and securely by mail for decades. In a system designed by Republicans, at least three-quarters of Arizona voters choose to vote by mail. Today the court agreed that the federal government cannot upend our election system just weeks before ballots go out.”

On the campaign trail, Ms. Mayes team released several campaign short videos highlighting the META deal and showcasing her opponent, Warren Petersen’s support of Medicaid cuts and personal corruption.

On the META Deal, the Attorney General said:

“We just announced an epic settlement against Facebook and Instagram that will bring $223 million minimum into the state of Arizona for teen mental health. There will be a two-hour total time limit and they will be interrupted after 15 minutes of continuous use and after 60 minutes of use and interrupted again after 90 minutes of use. Parents will have the option to get their kids off the algorithmic automatic feed.”

On Petersens support for Medicaid cuts, Mayes called him out, saying:

“In January, the Medicaid cuts will go into effect. My opponent, for instance, voted in favor of and has supported the Medicaid cuts that will throw 342,000 Arizonans off of Medicaid. That is what is about to happen in the state of Arizona on top of the SNAP cuts.

I’m hopeful (that she and the other states can stop Trump) because we’ve been able to stop 80% of the bad stuff that has been.”

Responding to Petersen’s negative assertions about her campaign contributions in an interview with Dennis Welch, Mayes, smiling, countered:

“If anybody has been engaging in pay to play, it’s pay to play Warren Peterson. Because this is a guy who accepted through an IE $1.2 million in campaign contributions from corporations that in one of which I’m suing, a mobile home private equity firm, that literally was allowing people to boil in their homes. That’s the kind of people he’s taking money from.

So I’m really not going to accept any criticism from that guy.”
