In Education and Science, Trump is “Making America Last” and China First

When Hitler came to power, his Anti Semitic policies and denunciation of physics, calling it “Jewish Science,” caused a seismic shift in education and science global leadership.

With Nazi and, to a lesser extent, Fascist Italy dictatorial and racist policies, scientists like Albert Einstein, Leo Szilard, and Enrico Fermi fled the countries of their birth. They emigrated to Britain and the United States, where they helped lay the foundations of nuclear theory and the creation of the atomic bomb for the Allies in World War Two.

This is why people should learn from history, as society fast forwards 90 years later and one sees Donald Trump and his Project 2025 agenda cutting funding for Universities, including research programs for science linked areas, and deporting people who are vital to cancer treatment.

With universities and staff wondering what will become, through court actions in many cases, of their positions and cherished benefiting humanity projects, one nation, according to Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey in her appearance on Morning Joe, is waiting in the wings to scoop up what Trump is stupidly tossing away.

China, the nation Trump views as adversary number one after illusory hordes of illegal immigrants, is actively recruiting discarded American scientists to come and research for them with attractive allowances.

As Governor Healey said on Morning Joe this morning, Trump is “Making America Last” while elevating China with his fiscal, tariff, and culture war Project 2025 policies.

History shows what happened to the intellectual cultures of authoritarian and totalitarian nations like Germany and Italy when their strongmen came to power.

This is another reason why people need to push back against these ill-advised MAGA-Project 2025 policy prescriptions and elect people who are not science deniers and will put the American research infrastructure as a high priority.

  1. Just a random observation about education in general: The average IQ in America used to climb steadily. Thanks to, you know, investments in public education, nutrition, and actual science.

Fast forward to 2025, and the average IQ is now around 97–98. Yep, below standard. Below average. But hey, “freedom,” right?

And yet, people are shocked — shocked — that after decades of defunding public schools, demonizing teachers, banning books, claiming CRT indoctrination, and replacing history class with “patriotism lessons,” the brainpower of the nation is slipping.

Gee, it’s almost like gutting public education on purpose has consequences. But what do I know? I went to a public school before they decided facts were optional.

    • Doesn’t seem like a random observation, more like you’re just paying attention.

I went to a small town elementary school in the midwest in the 60’s when the government funded special programs to encourage learning, because Sputnik scared the USA.

Then Vietnam dragged on and those programs lost funding. Murdering rice farmers and their kids was more important than funding schools.

Hey, ghost of Henry Kissinger, knock three times if hell’s real, would ya?

There’s the developmental impact of pollution on children, especially in poorer areas

Republicans defunding programs that feed school kids at the ages where their brains are developing

      Lead in our water supply

Microplastics and forever chemicals inside kid’s brains

Attacks on science which are actually attacks on math, because at its core science is all math

COVID didn’t help, long COVID is real, and who was anti-mask and anti-vax, who wanted kids cooped up in viral incubators, sorry, I mean classrooms?

Anti-vax crap means more kids are going to get sick, and some of the ones who live won’t be 100%

The far right’s attacks on fluoride are going to hurt people over time

The GOP’s push for homeschooling and religious indoctrination, but only for the correct and proper religion, the one that says the Earth is 6,000 years old, your lyin’ eyes be damned

Racism, and right now defunding higher education if those schools don’t stop young adults from having their own opinions

The absolutely insane way we fund our schools. Rich schools in rich areas vs. poorly funded schools in lower income areas

If you care about America’s kids how does that make any f’n sense?

Republicans treat teachers and education like the enemy

If you care about America’s future generations you don’t vote Republican.

Or for centrist Dems while we’re throwing truth bombs.
