Inauguration Day in Arizona

DingDongToday is Inauguration Day in Arizona. The clouds will part, the sun will shine, bells will be ringing and Arizonans will be dancing in the streets and singing “Ding dong the witch is gone! The witch is gone! The witch is gone! Ding Dong the wicked witch is gone!” as la bruja Jan Brewer leaves office.

The “accidental governor” who rode her broom to a full term on headless bodies in the desert and SB 1070 to become the “Red Queen” by demonizing people for breathing while brown, continued her hatred and spite toward DREAMers until the bitter end. “No drivers licenses for you, my pretties!” Unrepentant, unredeemed.

Enjoy this brief moment of respite while you can, Arizona. Because next week Dicey Doug Ducey, the man hired by Koch Industries to manage their Southwest subsidiary formerly known as the state of Arizona (h/t Charles Piece), now known as “Kochtopia,” will introduce his plan to close the $1.5 billion dollar budget deficit left by Brewer and the previous GOP controlled legislature. Things are about to get real ugly, real fast.

And the other shoe is about to drop with a decision in the inflation adjustment for education funding lawsuit, the $1 billion in restitution for back payments owed by our lawless legislature and Governor Brewer for stealing from the school districts to balance the state budget with gimmicks over the past five years, on top of the $337 million in additional funding for the schools already ordered owed in the current budget.
