Incoming Senate Democratic Leader Priya Sundareshan does not mince words in her statement blasting former Governor Doug Ducey, Superintendent of PUBLIC Instruction Tom Horne, and Legislative Republicans who ignored warnings at the time and expanded the Empowerment Scholarship Program (ESA) for families to use for private education expenses.
At the time Ducey and his supporters hailed this as an opportunity for low-income families to exercise school choice.
It is really an opportunity for families in the richest zip codes to get a hidden tax cut in a Republican-Plutocratic welfare-for-the-wealthy scheme.
It is also a venue for grifters to bilk the state of hard-earned middle and working-class taxpayer funds.
MAGA Republicans claim to be the party of fiscal responsibility and the working class.
They can start proving that by reforming the ESA Frankenstein Monster they have created and ensuring that working-class family’s hard-earned taxpayer funds are no longer being fleeced by the rich in a reverse Robin Hood scheme and fraudsters that are hiding in other states beyond the reach of Arizona legal authorities.
