An internal Democratic poll by Global Stategy Group conducted October 10-12, 2011 has the Democratic Tucson City Council candidates up big over their challengers.
Press release from the Pima County Democratic Party:
Democratic City Council candidates Paul Cunningham, Shirley Scott and Regina Romero hold commanding leads in their re-election bids, according to a poll conducted last week.
As ballots are about to be mailed out tomorrow, Shirley Scott holds a 25-point lead over Republican challenger Tyler Vogt (53 percent to 28 percent); Paul Cunningham leads Republican Jennifer Rawson by 29 points (54 percent to 25 percent) and Regina Romero leads Green Party candidate Beryl Baker by 32 points (49 percent to 17 percent).
Moreover, voters surveyed had a more positive view of Democrats than Republicans by a margin of 15 points, with the majority of voters (53 percent) having a negative view of the GOP.
The polling results show voters supportive of Democratic council candidates and losing interest in the most extreme elements of the GOP, said Pima County Democratic Party Chairman Jeff Rogers.
“Voters are lining up behind the Democrats, who have proven themselves strong advocates for transparent and accountable government and who will continue to work to make Tucson a great place to live, work and raise a family,” Rogers said. “What works in Phoenix doesn't necessarily work in Tucson, as voters are rejecting the extreme Tea Party element that has taken over the Republican Party.”
Global Strategy Group conducted the survey from Oct. 10 to Oct. 12. It surveyed 400 voters and has a margin of error of 4.9 points.
