Joe Biden hits it out of the ballpark at a Press Conference covering Recent Events

Trump Zone and Fox Island Residents who had delusions that Joe Biden was a frail elderly gentleman were sorely disappointed this afternoon as the former Vice President and 2020 Democratic Presidential Nominee demonstrated a mastery of the issues and exhibited a Presidential demeanor at a press conference in Delaware today.

The last question actually dealt with cognitive ability and if he had been tested for cognitive decline.

Mr. Biden ably dismissed the questions premise saying:

“I’ve been tested and been constantly tested. Look, all you gotta do is watch me and I can hardly wait to compare my cognitive capability to the cognitive capability of the man I’m running against.”

The former Vice President also took questions on a variety of other topics. They are discussed below.

Russian Bounties on American Soldiers:

Biden said that Congress needs to get the facts and Trump is “not cognizant” of world events. Biden further said that:

  • The President should have said on day one what is happening.
  • He should have contacted the Joint Chiefs for preventive measures to protect troops.
  • Should have called Putin to get him to desist.
  • The idea that he (Trump) was not briefed is a dereliction of duty. if he was briefed (and did nothing,) that’s a dereliction of duty.
  • The President has to answer questions about this quickly. If he knew and did nothing about this, then the “public should conclude that this man isn’t fit to be President of the United States of America.”
  • On a second question, if Trump violated his oath of office in this instance, Biden said it depends on “what he did and what he knew…I can not see how he did not know about so many things over the last three years.”

Where the Presidential race stands?:

Biden called the 2020 race the “most unusual campaign and I am going to follow the doc’s orders. I am not going to be holding rallies. There will be social distancing and people will be wearing masks at events like this. I would much rather be with the people….but they tell me 200 million people have watched what I’ve done from home… I don’t want to jinx myself…I know the polling data is good but it’s really early…I think we have a whole lot of work to do…I can hardly wait (for debates against Mr. Trump.)”

In a later question, he committed to three debates against Trump.

Removing of statues and renaming of buildings:

Biden maintained that any institution can change a name if they want to, saying “there is a distinction of reminders of history and recovering from history.”

He added that comparing Founding Fathers like Washington and Jefferson to Confederate Political and Military Leaders/Traitors is wrong. Confederate statues belong in museums. Others like the Jefferson Memorial or statues to Columbus should be protected.

in a later question, he said the best way to remove statutes through a peaceful legislative process like they did in Mississippi with the Confederate flag.

Has he been tested for the Coronavirus?

No, he has not because “I (Biden) have had no symptoms and I have not wanted to take anybody’s place in the process.” His secret service and staff are tested.

What would you do about Putin?

Biden would not publicly commit to any actions but he did relay that “the idea that he can interfere here or Europe will not continue in my administration including U.N. condemnation and sanctions.”

Supreme Court and Vice President Nominees:

“We are putting together a list of African American women who are qualified to serve on the Supreme Court. I am not going to release that (a list) until they are properly vetted.” He expanded that to say he is not going to release a list of potential Vice Presidential nominees. He plans to announce the Vice Presidential nominee in early August. He would not guarantee to announce on August 1, 2020. On a later question, if the Vice Presidential nominee should have a background in national security and foreign policy, Mr. Biden said it would be better if the person had “an expertise in an area he did not have.” The nominee needs to have the “intellectual capacity, the temperament, and the leadership qualities” that lead one to believe they would be ready to assume the Presidency.

Coronavirus increases in Delaware and across the country:

“Every day I get a briefing on what is happening across the country.” For the rest of the response, he mostly spoke about the local situation in Delaware.

Response to Pandemic: How we are going to get the people in the country on the same page?

“It is to lower the rhetoric based on division. Stop appealing to the less healthy side of society.” Biden also suggested Trump stop tweeting support for people shouting for White Supremacy. “We need to appeal to the better side of human nature” in wearing masks so people can be protected from infections. “It’s called patriotism. it’s called responsibility. It’s called making sure you look out for the other person.” He criticized Mr. Trump’s self-centered obsession with himself and avoiding personal accountability. “It’s not about I. It’s about us and I think changing the tone of an administration across the board, allowing scientists to speak, making sure people understand the facts, good, bad, or indifferent, and when a mistake is made, you say I made a mistake….I think all those things change the atmosphere…The words of a President matter…It’s about the tone and it goes across the board. We have to do that (bring the country together)… We should be talking to our better angels…You have a moral obligation (to wear masks)

People who support Mr. Biden’s campaign can take great comfort in his performance with the press today.

When was any time Trump supporters could say that about their candidate?

  1. Google: “In general, news stories are organized using the inverted pyramid style, in which information is presented in descending order of importance.”

Yeah, I see that. I actually like your writing style, Sharpie. Good content, straight to the point, often amusing, never verbose.

  2. Hear hear!

For better or worse, my writing style is blamed on my high school journalism teacher. A former journalist himself, and a person who let me challenge him in debate daily, much to his credit and my benefit.

And while I’m at it, hey internet, look up Inverted pyramid, then learn it, know it, live it.

  3. Mr. Wingnut, everything you write about is from a right wing perspective based on half truths and propaganda. I have to believe all your news sources are “conservative”.

I can’t begin to address it all, and there’s really no point because others have already done that. The “other side” is out there if you’re interested.

I would just say that Donald Trump doesn’t pretend to be anything other than a white supremacist and anyone who is okay with that is of questionable moral character, IMO. As for being president, he has botched the job every which way possible. And the negative effects of his incompetence and outright criminality will be felt long term by a LOT of people who do not deserve it. And as for voting for Donald Trump, I was not a fan of Hillary Clinton nor am I a fan of Joe Biden. But there is really no comparing Donald’s trangressions (take your pick, I won’t list them) to what we might have expected from Hillary or what we can expect from Biden.

And yes, I do like good writing. For me, it was Mrs. MacLaughlin in 11th and 12th grades. She was supposed to teach us English Literature in 11th grade but soon realized we were almost illiterate. So we spent half the year just on grammar and did the same thing in 12th grade. Better late than never.

But why are you leaving? An articulate wingnut is a rare treat.

  4. OK, enough of the ” Yeah, well my Dad can beat up your Dad.” Let’s agree every candidate that runs for any office is flawed. What it is going to come down to for me is the same thing it did in 2016 when I was standing in line to vote. On the one hand there was Hillary. I stood there thinking this woman went to extreme measures to destroy Emails that were part of an investigation. That is a fact not a right wing talking point. I watched hour after hour of the Benghazi hearings and thought she was spinning that story every which way from Sunday. I thought electing her would be like giving her husband another term and I was never a big Bill Clinton fan. I have no respect for a man that cheats on his wife time and time again. Or a wife that allows it. So as I stood there thinking she wasn’t a very good Secretary of State, why would I want to promote her? If she was my employee I wouldn’t promote her.

And I liked some of the things Trump was saying, and I will admit to saying for years that we need a President that isn’t a politician. I agreed with his thinking on criminal immigration, the second amendment, and putting America first. Had no idea if he would follow up on any of that but combining that with the Hillary story, it was enough for me to pull the lever for him.

I feel it’s going to be the same this time around. Watching Mr. Biden stumble his way through questions and sometimes look lost, which is on tape, not a right wing talking point, is not how I want my president to look or respond. It’s also his party. There were Democrats calling for Trumps’ impeachment before he took his first breath as president. That’s not the way it’s supposed to be. If your guy doesn’t get elected you still back the President and get rid of him in four years if you don’t like him. At least give him a chance before you start taking shots at him.

So, with all his warts, I still think Donald J. Trump is the better choice.

And with that , I, Mr. Wingnut, will end my Blog for Arizona adventure, good luck and the best of wishes for all.

P.S. Thank you for the kind words about my writing and sentence structure. I think the credit goes to Mrs. Herkness my 3rd grade teacher. A great teacher is a wonderful thing.

  5. Well, Mr. Gordon, if nothing else BofA is attracting a better class of wingnut. I noticed that Mr. Vandetty, while full of embellished right wing talking points, writes fairly well. He is able to spell words, construct a sentence, and divide his sentences into paragraphs.

    Amazing.

    • When Rob Vandetty says “increasing violence in Democratic run cities” I assume he’s talking about the hundreds of documented attacks on press covering the events by the police.

Because while there were hundreds of people out of control, there were millions, in 430 US cities and almost every other country in the world, peacefully protesting for the last month, too.

Protesting murder of unarmed US citizens by the people paid to protect them.

I’m old enough to remember last month, when armed Patriots were protesting (by the hundreds) their right to not wear a mask and to get a haircut. So brave.

Hey, did you know that a cop is charged with sex crimes every five days?

That means when the cops come, they’re not sending their best, they’re rapists, they’re murderers, and some, I assume, are good people.

When Rob talks about the economic numbers that Trump “got us”, I assume he’s talking about the tens of millions of unemployed people and the trillions he added to the national debt.

Or maybe he’s talking about the record number of people who attended Trump’s inauguration?

Or the 130,000 Freedom Cadavers, the brave Americans who gave their lives to COVID. So far.

I like how the wing nuts talk about Biden’s mental state, but completely forget that Trump talked about the Founding Fathers taking over “airports” during the Revolutionary War. LOL.

      • OMG, I forgot about the airports. That was back in the day when we could still laugh about Trump’s ignorance. But after 3.5 years, the near total decimation of the executive branch along with 130K dead bodies, it isn’t amusing. No one could have imagined this nightmare except maybe Stephen King.

I hope we get to look back on all of this someday in the not too distant future and call it the nadir, our lowest point of the 21st century. Because God help us if it gets much worse.

So much has been squandered and for no good reason at all.

  6. Hit it out of the park? Maybe a Tee ball league park. Spoon fed questions that it sure looked like he knew were coming. Why the teleprompters? If he read a speech before the Q and A, I didn’t see that, and I guess that would explain them. Otherwise, why were they there?

Not one tough question about what he would do other than how he would do a little sabre rattling Putin’s way. Where were the questions about the things that matter over the next four years? Does he have an economic plan that will surpass the record setting numbers that Trump’s plan got us? Not one question asked about the increasing violence in numerous Democratic run cities . Where were the questions about his son being hired for a job he had no business being hired for other than his Father being the Vice President? How about him being on the team that gave Iran plane loads of CASH. How does he feel about that decision now? He just stood there and said that if you make a mistake then just say so. Those are just the tip of the iceberg.

I especially liked how he ended it. His first press conference, I use that term loosely, in over 85 days, he can’t go longer than 30 minutes? He said had to go or he would get in trouble. Who is running the show Joe? First time in that situation in front of the American people to hear your thoughts for the future of our country and all we get is less than half an hour of softball questions that you knew were coming?

I don’t like everything Trump does or everything he says. But, I do believe the Presidents’ main two priorities are peace and prosperity, and Trump has knocked both of those out of any ball park you can name. I don’t see anything in Joe Biden’s 40+ years in politics that would instill me with the confidence that he can top what Trump has done in three.

    • Trump has knocked peace and prosperity out of the park. He took the good economy he inherited from Barack Obama and destroyed it with his handling of the Coronavirus. With regard to peace, all our allies are laughing and pitying us while our enemies are taking advantage of us by playing Trump for the fool he is. What Trump plan? Name one plan that came from him. The tax cut plan for the rich came from Republicans in Congress. Where is his infrastructure plan? Where is his health care plan that is supposed to be better and cheaper than Obamacare? Where is his border security plan where Mexico pays for the wall and kids are not caged like animals and separated from their parents? I am disheartened that you continually peddle Fox Island and Disinfowar fecal matter about Iran and Hunter Biden. Why about Ivanka and all those trademarks in China? What about Trump Towers proposals for Turkey and Russia? Those controversies are based in reality.

      • So the country gets invaded by a virus from China, the worst in 100 years, the economy goes down and that’s Trumps’ fault? Maybe if he hadn’t taken it to record numbers it wouldn’t have looked so bad. Not to mention the roundly criticized decision he made 10 days after the first case of the virus to shut down travel coming in from China. That’s the kind of tough decision that a real leader makes in the face of being labeled every negative type of person you can be named. From every Democrat to almost every media source. He still made the right, tough decision to save Americans.

Who are the allies that are laughing at us? The ones in NATO that our president finally had the guts to tell the rest of the members to hand over their share of the cost of their defense? I think it’s great that we have a leader with the strength to take a leading role and put Americas’ concerns first. I don’t want a globalist president that is so worried about the world stage that he puts our interests on the back burner.

The wall is going up. Another solid move by this President to take care of Americans. No matter who is paying for it. He’s protecting us from people coming here illegally. There are ways to become a member of this melting pot of a country that are perfectly legal. Like millions have and will continue to do because this is the greatest country in the world. Your first day here should not be as a criminal sneaking in while putting your children at risk. When you break the law there are consequences. Don’t be mad at the people enforcing the law. Be upset with a parent that made the decision to put their own children in that position in the first place.

I’m assuming you saw the Biden video where he tells the Ukraine that if they don’t fire a prosecutor they won’t get our money. Then he gave them 6 hours. There were guys that did that sort of thing from my old neighborhood that my Mother always told me to stay away from. ( Think the movie Bronx Tale. ) Then his son gets a job making $50,000 a month to be on a board of a company that is in a business that he knows nothing about, in a country he knows nothing about. Both of those things he admitted in an interview. Wonder if his dad being Vice President had anything to do with that? That is a fact!

The worst thing though, is that he was part of the administration that gave our sworn enemy plane loads of cash. That is a fact! I will never be able to get over that. How do we know that if he had the opportunity to do it again that he wouldn’t? Iran has been screaming ” Death to America” for decades and we’re lining their pockets. Turns my stomach.

One of the great things about this country is the freedom to have a difference of opinion. Even though I don’t agree with yours, I still will listen and respect both you and your opinion. Another great thing is that every four years we get to vote the SOB out if we don’t like him or her.

        • I liked your last paragraph but everything before that was something else. Donald Trump is not to blame for the Coronavirus coming to the country. He is responsible for how it has been handled. For example, Arizona had more daily cases of COVID 19 than the entire European Union. There have been a little over 500,000 deaths around the world (7.5 billion people.) The United States (350 million people) has a quarter of those fatalities. Illegal Immigration was going down under Obama before Trump came to office. Yes, I saw the Biden video. He was executing United States and European Foreign Policy objectives. No conspiracy there. You repeat the debunked Iran conspiracy theory. You can not keep repeating the same falsehood time and time again in hopes that it will be believed.

        • Wow. Well, just for starters, Trump did not shut down travel from China, over 400,000 people came into the US from China after the “shutdown”.

Most of them US citizens, sure, but they were flying in from a country with an active pandemic, and there were no precautions taken.

They packed them into airports like sardines, man.

Plus, the first cases of COVID-19 in the US have been traced to Europe. See John Prine.

The wall is the stupidest way to keep our border safe. People have figured out how to make a cheap rig, under 5 dollars, to climb over it, and you can buy a battery operated reciprocating saw at Home Depot for a hundred bucks and cut through it in two minutes.

And it’s being built in the desert, where Monsoon rains will cause debris to pile up against it and flood huge areas. This has already happened.

The good news is the new wall is only three miles, the other 200 miles that Trump lies about was already there and just replaced and upgraded, and most of that’s a fence, not a wall.

You are missing some of the Biden/Ukraine story, but let’s talk about Hunter.

Hunter got a job based on his name, just like Ivanka and Jared. Ivanka has been getting patents and trademarks by the dozens in….China.

Kushner has been getting bailouts for his failing real estate empire from…the Middle East.

Hunter’s deal was greasy, but you don’t care about the Kushner’s using your government to enrich themselves? Ok.

Half the White House is related to prominent donors or radio/TV hosts. Trump’s White House is nepotism central.

The money sent to Iran was Iran’s money. It had been held since the hostage taking back in the 80’s. Giving it back to the owners was part of the nuclear deal.

The nuclear deal was and for the most part still is working, because it wasn’t the US-Iran deal, there were other countries involved and they still are.

I wish people would learn more and watch TV less.

          So much misinformation.

Hey, one last fun fact, Trump is not nor has he ever been a billionaire. There may be some Russia money in his tax returns, it would be odd if there weren’t since he sells condos in Florida, but the real reason he won’t release them is because his cult will find out he’s rich, but not anywhere near that rich.
