One does not file an election challenge to a candidate's petitions unless one has done the research and knows for certain that there are enough invalid signatures to disqualify the candidate. Otherwise, what is the point?

The Arizona Capitol Times (subscription required) reports Jonathan Paton drops suit against contender:

Jonathan Paton dropped a lawsuit that sought to have one of his Republican contenders in the 1st Congressional District race removed from the ballot.

Paton had alleged that more than half of Gaither Martin’s signatures were fraudulently collected or gathered under a petition that listed the wrong address.

He withdrew the lawsuit Monday after Martin agreed to throw out 195 signatures that he did not personally witness.

Martin spokesman Nathan Sproul says the campaign determined those signatures weren’t necessary to remain in the race. He called the lawsuit filed less than a week ago frivolous.

Well, hey now, that's interesting. The GOP's voter suppression specialist slash "campaign consultant" Nathan Sproul is working for Gaither Martin? This guy has not even filed a financial disclosure yet with the FEC, indicating he has not raised enough money to file. Let's see what he has been able to raise at the next reporting deadline. He probably pissed it all away on Sproul, but let's wait and see.
