Ken Bennett completes his transformation into unabashed partisan

by David Safier

Ken Bennett is taking his decision to deny the voters a chance to decide on renewing the one cent sales tax to the Supreme Court.

A few weeks ago, Bennett was planning to accept Judge Oberbillig's decision.

In an op-ed piece nearly two weeks ago in the Arizona Daily Star, Bennett wrote if the trial judge ruled in favor of initiative organizers "our office will complete our work and place the measure on the ballot."

After Oberbillig not only ruled against Bennett but made him look like an idiot for throwing out the initiative over a technicality, Bennett had a change of heart made a purely partisan decision:

"To leave the lower court ruling in place I think risks huge voter confusion, huge confusion with our offices and other filing offices as far as how we're supposed to process these initiatives," he said.

"We believe very strongly that we followed the law precisely," he said.

Bennett is chanelling "Rule of Law Russell" Pearce. The last shred of nonpartisanship he could have maintained in the Secretary of States office has been shredded to oblivion.

  1. I’m a voter and I signed the petitiion. I’m not confused. I understand perfectly well that Mr. Bennett is trying to deny voters their right to decide this issue.
