"Tomorrow, Nancy Young-Wright will take the oath of office and assume
her place at the table. Nancy has proven abilities and experience to be
a success for the District and the State of Arizona.
Nevertheless,
with the budget shortfall, the months ahead will be stressful and
difficult for Nancy. I know you will show her the same encouragement
and support you gave to me. Believe me, it will help her get through
the long days ahead.
Now we must look to the future. Nancy is
our incumbent candidate, with Don Jorgensen continuing his campaign for
the second seat. We are fortunate to have such capable candidates.
Some of you have expressed concern over a possible primary. We must discourage this at every turn.
Let
me set the record straight. Neither Tom Cuevas nor Cheryl Cage will
seek the nomination for state representative. Tom will continue with
the board and other volunteer efforts. Cheryl is back to her original
plans she made before I resigned. She will continue her work as Don
Jorgensen’s campaign manager. And, I am excited to report, she will be
a candidate for the Marana Town Council in the May 2009 election.
It was with complete support from Don Jorgensen, that
Cheryl and Tom to placed their names in for the list of nominees that
would be sent to the Board of Supervisors. Cheryl was asked to do so.
She agreed because she understood the need for a strong list of
candidates from which the District could choose.
During this
past week of our District’s "speed election", it is understandable that
emotions ran high. That is all behind us. We must move on and put our
energies to a positive goal: RETAIN AND GAIN the seats in 2008.
District
26 has come a long way since 2005. Let us continue to build on what we
have created and focus on the future. Together we can not fail.
I am filled with gratitude and feel honored for privilege of serving you in the Arizona House of Representatives.
Sincerely,
Lena"
