Cutting funding for children with disabilities.
Stigmatizing innocent trans kids on what bathrooms they can use.
Not fully funding public schools.
Not advancing bills that would pay for school meals.
The MAGA Republican War on Vulnerable Children Continues at both the Arizona State Legislature and across the nation.
A day after the announcement that the United States Department of Agriculture was canceling COVID era school lunch and food security programs, members of the Arizona MAGA majority at the State Legislature informed Assistant Democratic House Leader and Ranking Member of the Education Committee Nancy Gutierrez that her bill, HB2213, to provide free meals to school children in public schools was not, after having been approved at the committee level, moving forward with a third read on the House Floor.
Responding to this outrage and latest attack on vulnerable children by MAGA Republicans who think treating people badly and shortchanging their needs is a long term political winner, Representative Gutierrez released this video on Instagram a short time ago.
In her remarks to her constituents, Representative Gutierrez said:
“These are (for) families that make under 57,000 a year for a family of four… it’s been waiting for a couple weeks to be on third read and I just learned today that it is dead, which means that the Republicans could have put it up for a vote, it would have passed and they chose not to.”
“This is Feeding children becoming political gain and I am not going to stand for it, so I will be issuing a formal protest on the Floor. I hope you let everyone know to email every single member of the Republicans in the Arizona State House, and the Arizona State Senate, and our Governor that this is a priority and that it should absolutely be in our budget. And my caucus will be fighting to get it in the budget. It is $3.8 million. It is a drop in the bucket, especially considering that some of their “Border Protection Bills” are 50 to 100 million dollars… I know that it matters because I am a teacher and I’ve seen the impact that food makes which is no surprise. If kids don’t eat, they cannot learn. We are literally setting them up for failure and I will not rest Until that money is in the budget…I will continue this fight for our students to eat.”
Gutierrez is right.
Arizonans need to know that MAGA Republicans believe in spending a billion dollars on the welfare for the wealthy program known as the Empowerment Scholarship Private School Voucher Accounts while saying “Screw You” to the $125 million needed to fund programs to feed K-12 students and help children with disabilities.
This is nothing more than cultural and political eugenics from the far right, funded by groups supported by Elon “Sieg Heil’ Musk and other Neo-Fascists associated with MAGA world.
Watch this video that shows the thinking behind what the Neo-Fascists call Long-Termism. Historians recognize the verbiage. It comes from the Twentieth Century Eugenics Movement in the United States that Adolph Hitler coopted.
This approach, of using science to stop the birth of children who the “elites” feel “are not clever enough” and not fund programs that help non-white “inferior” people while suppressing Democracy, is what MAGA Republicans are seeking to do at the Arizona State Legislature and the federal government.
Look what they are trying to cut. Programs for children that do not meet their definition or worthy.
This is Twenty First Century Fascism and people across Arizona and the country should be very very afraid.
