Mayes for AG Re-Election Campaign Goes After Opponent Petersens Self Serving and Anti First Responder Record

The Fall Campaign is heating up.

The Kris Mayes for Attorney General Re-Election Campaign is running on all cylinders, touting the incumbent’s record of service to Arizonans during her first term while highlighting the ways her MAGA-Republican opponent, Warren Petersen, has served his most important constituency-himself.

In a September 14 press release, the Mayes re-election campaign reminded voters of all the ways Warren Petersen, while in the State Legislature, screwed over first responders, including:

• “In 2021, Petersen voted against SB 1451, which extended cancer presumption coverage to fire investigators and added two cancers to the firefighter occupational disease list.
• In 2017, Petersen voted against HB 2410, legislation supported by law enforcement that allowed workers’ compensation coverage for firefighters suffering from certain cardiac medical conditions.
• This year, Petersen voted against SB 1136, which would allow surviving spouses of first responders to receive death benefits until their death.
• In 2025, Petersen voted against SB 1156, which increased burial benefits available to the families of deceased state police officers.”

Commenting on Petersens opposition to helping those that protect him and all other Arizonans, Attorney General Mayes said:

“When you put your life on the line to protect Arizona, you deserve leaders who will fight to protect you, your health, and your family. I’ll always fight for our police and first responders. My opponent, on the other hand? He hasn’t had their back.”

Earlier today (September 15), the Mayes Re-Election Campaign released a website highlighting all the ways Petersen has helped…wait for it…himself including:

• “Petersen’s fight against Arizona’s voter-approved dark money disclosure law: Prop. 211 passed with 72% of the vote, but Petersen sued to overturn it and continues to fight the law.
• Petersen’s financial ties to his family’s homebuilding business: His financial disclosures list VIP Homes/VIP Construction as a source of compensation every year from 2012 through 2026, while he has voted on laws affecting the homebuilding industry.
• Petersen’s record on Arizona’s water future: He called the state’s 100-year assured water supply requirement “insane” and later joined a lawsuit challenging state water protections.
• Petersen’s record on health care: He was the only Arizona lawmaker to vote against legislation guaranteeing coverage for people with pre-existing conditions in 2020.”

The campaign also released the following ad, showcasing Petersen’s favoring of corporate-lobbyist donors that think he is their type of public servant-a person who turns a blind eye to wealthy plutocrats’ potential criminal activity and is therefore worthy of their donations.

Because a whole year before, the air conditioning failed at Boa Vida’s Redwood Mobile Home Park in Tucson

It wasn’t the first time. Inspections showed a faulty electrical system repeatedly left residents in a dangerous, even potentially deadly situation

Attorney General Mayes demanded Boa Vida comply with the law and make the repairs

Boa Vida ‘s response? A hefty donation to a PAC that supports Warren Petersen for Arizona’s top cop.
