In a ceremony that made me want to vomit, Trump gave the Medal of Freedom to Charlie Kirk, who was notorious for making highly inflammatory, racist, bigoted, antisemitic statements and hostile comments related to gender, religion, and LGBTQ+ rights.

Trump hailed Kirk as a “fearless warrior for liberty, a beloved leader.” But Kirk’s own words betray him. His remarks frequently provoked widespread criticism and were regularly cited as examples of hate speech or bigotry.
An assassin blasted Kirk’s neck apart on September 10, 2025, as he was answering a question on gun safety. He argued gun violence deaths were an acceptable “cost” of maintaining Second Amendment rights. “I think it’s worth it to have a cost of, unfortunately, some gun deaths every single year so that we can have the Second Amendment.”
Antisemitic and Islamophobic Remarks
- On Jewish Donors (2023): “Jewish donors have been the No. 1 funding mechanism of radical open-border, neoliberal, quasi-Marxist policies, cultural institutions and nonprofits… It’s the nonprofits, it’s the movies, it’s Hollywood, it’s all of it.”
- He characterized Islam as a threat and linked Muslim politicians to terrorism without evidence, such as associating a Muslim candidate with Al Qaeda and 9/11 in a political attack.
- He said, “Large dedicated Islamic areas are a threat to America.”
- “Islam is not compatible with Western civilization.”
- “Islam is the sword the left is using to slit the throat of America.”
Racist Statements

- About Michelle Obama, Joy Reid, Sheila Jackson Lee, and Ketanji Brown Jackson: “You do not have the brain processing power to otherwise be taken really seriously. You had to go steal a white person’s slot to go be taken somewhat seriously.”
- On the Civil Rights Act (December 2023): “I have a very, very radical view on this, but I can defend it, and I’ve thought about it. We made a huge mistake when we passed the Civil Rights Act in the 1960s.”
- On Martin Luther King Jr. (December 2023): “MLK was awful. He’s not a good person. He said one good thing he actually didn’t believe.”
- Kirk called the Civil Rights Act of 1964 a “blunder” and claimed it was manipulated into an “anti-white weapon,” also blaming Martin Luther King Jr. for these perceived outcomes and labeling King “an awful individual.”
- Kirk publicly referred to George Floyd as a “scumbag” and dismissed systemic racism in the US.
- “If you’re a WNBA, pot-smoking, Black lesbian, do you get treated better than a United States Marine?”
- “Prowling Blacks go around for fun to go target white people — that’s a fact.”
- “When I’m dealing with somebody in customer service who’s a moronic Black woman… is she there because of her excellence, or… affirmative action?”
- “If I see a Black pilot, I’m gonna be like, ‘Boy, I hope he’s qualified.'”
Anti-LGBTQ+ Rhetoric
- Kirk advocated using biblical law regarding stoning gays to death, calling it “God’s perfect law when it comes to sexual matters” in a widely circulated podcast episode.
- He repeatedly called gender-affirming care “child mutilation,” described being transgender as a “mental delusion,” and claimed “‘cis’ is a slur.”
- He claimed January 6 insurrectionists would have received more lenient treatment if “they had filmed themselves having gay sex in the buildings,” using the comment to attack queer people.
- He called gender-affirming clinic doctors criminals. “We need to have a Nuremberg-style trial for every gender-affirming clinic doctor.”
- Asked how many trans mass shooters in the last 10 years, he said: “Too many.”
Other Hate-filled Views
- “The American Democrat Party hates this country… They love it when America becomes less white.”
- “America was at its peak when we halted immigration for 40 years… We should be unafraid to do that.”
- In 2025, he said Taylor Swift should “reject feminism and submit to your husband, Taylor. You’re not in charge.”
- Kirk endorsed the “replacement theory,” saying “The great replacement strategy… is a strategy to replace white rural America with something different.”
- “There is no separation of church and state. It’s a fabrication… It’s made up by secular humanists.”
Predicting his own death
“I think it’s worth to have a cost of, unfortunately, some gun deaths every single year so that we can have the Second Amendment to protect our other God-given rights. That is a prudent deal.”
The world is a better place without Charlie Kirk.
