The Obama campaign has been forced to push back against the GOPropoganda machine fabrication of the “you didn’t build that” line of attack.
On Tuesday, the Obama campaign released the new ad “Always” below the fold.
Transcript:
“Those ads taking my words about small business out of context – they’re flat out wrong. Of course Americans build their own businesses. Every day, hard-working people sacrifice to meet a payroll, create jobs, and make our economy run. And what I said was that we need to stand behind them, as America always has — by investing in education and training, roads and bridges, research and technology.
“I’m Barack Obama and I approve this message because I believe we’re all in this together.”
A word of advice, Mr. President. Next time just call Willard “Mittens” Romney the shameless pathological liar that he is. No more Mr. Nice Guy about it.

To add…I also believe that the President is the President OF ALL AMERICANS, not just the 1%! It’s not an “either/or” scenario….it is everyone.
Well…I’ll take that from it’s source. I have no idea if that’s real or spliced together. However, I think that the bigger point he was making is that we all need a fair shot, which is something that he repeats on a daily basis. All the wealth can not be concentrated at the top and expected to trickle down somehow to the bottom. It will never happen and is not a plan to get the economy OR the people working. Income inequality has never been greater and more destructive.If you take his words in this literal basis, then it’s like talking to a bunch of 1st graders that can’t extrapolate the meaning behind what he’s saying.

Compensation for chief executives at American companies grew 15 percent in 2011 after a 28 percent rise in 2010, part of a larger trend that has seen CEO pay skyrocket over the last three decades. Workers, on the other hand, have been left behind.
Since 1978, CEO pay at American firms has risen 725 percent, more than 127 times faster than worker pay over the same time period, according to new data from the Economic Policy Institute:
From 1978 to 2011, CEO compensation increased more than 725 percent, a rise substantially greater than stock market growth and the painfully slow 5.7 percent growth in worker compensation over the same period.
In 1978, CEOs took home 26.5 times more than the average worker. They now make roughly 206 times more than workers, EPI found. The pay isn’t always tied to the performance of their businesses — as ThinkProgress has noted, CEOs at companies like Bank of America often pocket huge pay increases even as the company’s stock price plummets and jobs are cut.
Workers’ wages aren’t tied to productivity either. Despite substantial gains in productivity since the 1970s, worker pay has remained flat. According to Labor Department data cited by the Huffington Post, inflation-adjusted wages fell 2 percent in 2011.
As a result, American income inequality has skyrocketed, growing worse than it is in countries like Pakistan and Ivory Coast. Wealth inequality is worse than it was even in Ancient Rome. And, as pay skyrockets and tax rates fall for the richest Americans, the rising inequality has left the bottom 95 percent of Americans saddled with more debt than ever before.
This is what he was speaking to. The fact that America’s workers wages have been stagnant for decades, and CEO pay…regardless of how well the company has done, has skyrocketed…is NOT good.If the President thinks that the workers of this country deserve a decent wage, a living wage, for a decent days work…how are people NOT ok with that…hes’ talking about YOU!

As far as the “you didn’t build that” quote:
“If you’ve been successful, you didn’t get there on your own. You didn’t get there on your own. I’m always struck by people who think, well, it must be because I was just so smart. There are a lot of smart people out there. It must be because I worked harder than everybody else. Let me tell you something — there are a whole bunch of hardworking people out there.
“If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help. There was a great teacher somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you’ve got a business — you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen. The Internet didn’t get invented on its own. Government research created the Internet so that all the companies could make money off the Internet.
“The point is, is that when we succeed, we succeed because of our individual initiative, but also because we do things together.”
And remember, just yesterday, Romney endorsed this exact sentiment. He is, in other words, on the attack over an idea he agrees with.
In the video, Team Romney had to take out the sentences that showed what Obama was saying in order to fool people. Adding insult to injury, a Romney speech is featured at the end of the video, and it’s edited to omit the part of his speech in which Romney said Americans “couldn’t have” businesses were it not for public institutions — a sentiment that presumably makes the Republican candidate a socialist.
Greg added, “Romney supporters will respond that the parts of the speech that were included in the Web video are objectionable on their own. I don’t agree with that, but it’s a debatable point. However, there is no question that this edit is highly misleading. It deliberately removes multiple sentences about the broader theme of Obama’s speech that preceded the ‘you didn’t build that’ quote in order to deprive it of its actual meaning as Obama plainly intended that. And it creates the false impression of a seamless transition.”
Of course, if the Obama quote were really as outrageous as Republicans claim, creative editing wouldn’t have been necessary — Romney could have shared the real quote, with the context. That he hasn’t reinforces the fact that the president’s sentiment wasn’t offensive at all. Indeed, when the Romney campaign heard the line, they ignored for five days because they didn’t see it as controversial.
In the larger context, Romney has spent the last few days saying he can’t release his tax returns because rascally Democrats might take tidbits from the materials out of context, making him look bad. The irony is rich.
Now he’s Mr Romney in Ohio:
“There are a lot of people in government who help us and allow us to have an economy that works and allow entrepreneurs and business leaders of various kinds to start businesses and create jobs. We all recognize that. That’s an important thing…. I know that you recognize that a lot of people help you in a business. Perhaps the banks, the investors. There’s no question your mom and dad. Your school teachers. The people that provide roads, the fire, and the police. A lot of people help.”
I’m sorry, but this looks like to me, that he very MUCH agrees with the President! This is exactly what the President was talking about! But I see…IOKIYAR.
I’m sorry. I must have missed the “spread the wealth around” quote. Can you post that?
Would you be willing to give GOP candidates a pass on gaffes? I’m thinking, probably not. Anytime Obama says something stupid his sheep come to defense because his words were taken out of context. When should we actually take Obama at his word? Talk of “spread the wealth around” and “you didn’t build that” are not quotes taken out of context. They are, in fact, a glimpse into Obama’s philosophical beliefs. Grandstand all you like but I take Obama at his word.
