PodForArizona: Mary Kim Titla, Candidate for Democratic Nomination in Congressional District 1

Titla2
I had a nice conversation with Democrat Mary Kim Titla, the former news reporter and internet entrepreneur, who is standing for nomination in Congressional District 1. She seeks the seat being "vacated" by "retiring" congressman Rick "call me Dick" Renzi.

Titla calls herself a moderate with traditional, small-town values. One possibly distinguishing position is that Titla calls herself a pro-life Democrat who recognizes the sanctity of marriage. I didn’t gather the impression that she would be seeking to make abortion illegal, or ban gay marriage, but you should draw your own conclusions by listening.

Because she is new to politics, Titla will be relying heavily on her ties to the community in CD1, especially her long relationships with the Native American tribes, and on the wide name-recognition from her former broadcasting career. CD1 has the second highest percentage of Native American voters of any district in the nation, so they will be a decisive factor in the nomination and the general election.

If elected, Titla will be the first Native American woman to serve in Congress.
