Recall Finchem Campaign Picking Up Steam

Only 53 days ago, a bipartisan group filed a petition to recall insurrectionist Rep. Mark Finchem (R-LD11), and Rural Arizonans for Accountability has already collected 10,000 signatures to oust him.

Hundreds of volunteers are collecting petition signatures to hold a recall election on November 2 to eject Finchem, a member of the Oath Keepers militia, for violating his oath of office by promoting and defending the deadly insurrection of January 6th.

Volunteers have 67 days until the July 8 deadline to collect 24,775 signatures. Campaign Manager Chesney Richter said that she expects the petitions to be challenged, and the recall effort is aiming to get 35,000 to 40,000 signatures. She spoke on a Zoom call yesterday sponsored by The Arizona Ground Game.

Petition signers must live in Legislative District 11 (Oro Valley, Marana, Casa Grande, and Maricopa), but volunteers can be from anywhere. Visit Recallfinchem.com to support the campaign. Volunteers will get a list of people to call, a script to follow, a list of locations to sign petitions.

Locations to sign include:

  • Wheeler Taft Abbett Sr. Library – 7800 N Schisler Dr, Tucson, AZ 85743 – Monday through Friday 10am – 4pm

Recall campaigns really do work. For example, Senator Russell Pierce was recalled in 2011 for sponsoring the notorious SB1070 bill, a racist anti-illegal immigrant measure.

An hour after domestic terrorists breached the United States Capitol on January 6th, Arizona State Representative Mark Finchem praised the rioters. He took a photo of the rioters gathered in front of him and tweeted it to his 56,000 followers. He violated his Loyalty Oath to the Constitutions of the United States and the State of Arizona.

Furthermore, he is greedy.

Just after hosting an unauthorized “election integrity” hearing with Rudy Guiliani on December 18, 2020, the Trump campaign gave Finchem a $6,037 payoff for “legal consulting.” The Arizona Mirror broke the story, describing how Finchem not only failed to report the money he got, but also has never reported his business entity to as he is required to do by law.

After announcing he is running for Arizona’s next Secretary of State, Finchem was accused of violating campaign finance laws by the nonpartisan organization Campaign for Accountability. Finchem asked donors to send funds intended for a political action committee (PAC) to his personal Venmo and PayPal accounts. Arizona prohibits the commingling of PAC and personal funds.

Finchem used campaign donations to buy his airplane ticket to DC on January 6. He lied in an official report about what the ticket was for, saying he was meeting with a Republican caucus.

Finchem made the “Worst Legislator in Arizona” list for his anti-abortion, pro-gun and anti-education postitions.

  1. Mark Finchem is an insurrectionist and a truth denier. He holds extreme right-wing views that disqualify him from any role in representative government. He aligns himself with other bigots of the Republican Party. His goal is not to govern but to control how we conduct our lives as Americans, to impose so-called “traditional values” on the rest of us (read WASP control of education and government). He wants to roll back strides in equality that have been achieved over the last few decades. My wife and I searched out and found a recall petition. Very happy to attach our signatures.

  2. Any idea how many signatures collected to date from LD 11 voters? Should be interesting to see if they get enough signatures. Finchem will be termed out by 2022 hence he is seeking another political position.
