Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick to run for U.S. Senate

This is a surprise. Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick (D-AZ) announced this morning that she will run for the U.S. Senate seat held by Arizona’s angry old man, Neocon war monger Sen. John “Surge” McCain. Here is the email sent to Democratic leadership (modified).

This also means that Democrats need to recruit a candidate for CD 1, which may look quite a bit different after the U.S. Supreme Court announces its decision in Arizona’s redistricting case.

Exciting news:

I’m running for U.S. Senate.

I wanted you to be one of the first to hear it. And I wanted you to hear it straight from me.

I’ve lived in Arizona my whole life. I’ve seen it go through boom-and-bust cycles, and I see opportunities ahead. Our state is changing. And I think Arizonans deserve a real choice in the next election.

I’ve got a vision for the future of Arizona — and it’s all about jobs. I know this isn’t going to be an easy race. But I’ve got my boots on, my sleeves are rolled up, and I’m ready to work.

I’m proud to have you with me. Your support over the years has made Team Kirkpatrick a force to be reckoned with. Today, I’m hoping you can take it to the next level.

Today, we’re kick-starting this campaign. If you can, make a contribution — of whatever size makes sense — to get us off to a rip-roaring start.

I’ve always worked to put Arizona first. And I’m excited to bring that work to the United States Senate.

Thank you, as always, for standing with me.

Ann

  1. A friend asked me if Rodney Glassman was running again, he had heard that he might.
    What have you heard?
    Thanks

  2. Very good news for Arizona Democrats! I believe that Ann Kirkpatrick has a real shot at winning the Senate seat.
Arizona Republicans might dump McCain in the primary with a far right candidate. With a possible Hillary wave coming in 2016, that might be enough for a Kirkpatrick win.
Or there might simply be too much McCain fatigue. He has been here forever, but hasn’t had a tough senate race maybe ever. He is still the grumpy, bomb bomb Iran, don’t know how many houses my wife owns, kind of guy.

  3. Angry-Bitter-Old-Man’s recent comments about how the war in Iraq was ‘won’ before it was ‘lost’ should give her some fodder (if people bother to pay attention). Dems and Indies need to get behind her–at least she’s a lot more viable candidate than the awful DINO Rodney Glassman from the last cycle.
