Sinwar is Dead; Both Biden and Harris Say it is Time for the Day After to End the War in Gaza

Yahya Sinwar, the leader of Hamas who masterminded the deadliest attack on Jews since the Holocaust with the attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, is dead, killed in an Israeli raid.

Good riddance.

This was no freedom fighter. This was a man who was willing to fight to the death of the last Palestinian to achieve his monstrous aim of wiping Israel off the map.

How much Palestinian and Israeli blood does this man have on his dead hands. Tens of thousands.

Reacting to the death of Sinwar, President Joe Biden, arriving in Berlin to discuss the war in Ukraine said of Sinwars death and the day after:

It’s a good day for the world. I called Bibi Netanyahu to congratulate him for getting Sinwar…I told him I was pleased with his actions…and now is the time to move on. Move toward a cease-fire in Gaza and make sure we move in a direction to make things better for the whole world. It’s time for this war to end and bring the hostages home…I’m sending (Secretary of State) Tony Blinken (to Israel) in four or five days. I’m going to talk with Bibi about what is a day after now? To secure Gaza and move on.”

When asked if he felt more confident about a ceasefire, Mr. Biden said, “I do.”

When asked when the war would end, the President replied, “Hopefully, very soon.”

Earlier in the day, Vice President Kamala Harris took time off campaigning in Wisconsin to comment on the death of Sinwar.

While echoing many of President Biden’s points, she appeared Presidential and statesman-like, unlike her twice impeached and 34 times convicted opponent.

Below are the Vice President’s comments:

“Yahya Sinwar, the leader of Hamas is dead and justice has been served. The United States, Israel, and the entire world are better off as a result.”

“Sinwair was responsible for the killing of thousands of innocent people. Including the victims of October 7th. And hostages killed in Gaza. He had American blood on his hands. Today, I can only hope that the families of the victims of Hamas, feel a sense, and measure of relief.”

“Sinwair was The Mastermind of October 7th. The deadliest day for the Jewish people, since the Holocaust. A terrorist attack that killed 1200 innocent people and included horrific, sexual violence, and more than 250 hostages taken into Gaza including seven Americans living and deceased, who remain in captivity. A terrorist attack that triggered a devastating war in Gaza. A war that has led to unconscionable suffering including many innocent Palestinians and greater instability throughout the Middle East.”

“In the past year. American Special Operations and intelligence personnel have worked closely with their Israeli counterparts. To locate and track Sinwair and other Hamas leaders. And I commend their work. And I will say, Any terrorists who kills Americans, threatens the American people or threatens our troops or our interests know this, we will always bring you to Justice.”

Israel has a right to defend itself and the threat Hamas poses to Israel must be eliminated. Today, there is clear progress toward that goal. Hamas is decimated and its leadership is eliminated. This moment gives us an opportunity to finally end the war in Gaza. And it must end such that Israel is secure, the hostages are released, the suffering in Gaza ends and the Palestinian people can realize their right to dignity security, freedom, and self-determination And it is time for the Day After to begin without Hamas in power. We will not give up on these goals and I will always work to create a future of peace, dignity, and security for all.”

President Biden and Vice President Harris are right.

The Day After is here.

It is time for the war in Gaza to end.

It is time for human suffering to end both with the return of the hostages and for the innocent Palestinians in Gaza who were used as pawns and human shields by Hamas.

It is time to forge a sustainable peace for Israelis, Palestinians, and the remainder of the Middle East that do not yet have peace treaties with Israel.

It is time for the Palestinians in Gaza to tell the last surviving remnants of Hamas’s leadership, “Enough! Go away!”

It is time for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, as Thomas Friedman wrote in a recent column, to show that he is what he says he is: Israel’s Churchill.

If Benjamin Netanyahu and his band of expansionist extremists in the Israeli government do not heed the call for peace and history, then the Israeli people need to voice their no confidence and elect a government that will promote peace, dignity, and security for all people in the area.

  1. Hamas refuses to surrender. They have vowed to continue fighting. How can you tell Israel to end the war, when Hamas won’t?

    • As usual John you did not read the article carefully. I suggest you reread the last portion of my article again starting with “The Day After is Here” in bold. Take care.
