Disgraced former House Speaker and preeminent housing historian, Newt Gingrich, participated in a Univision candidate forum in Miami on Wednesday. Newt was asked about Willard "Mittens" Romney's immigration policy of "self-deportation" from Monday night's "Survivor – GOP Presdiential Primary" debate.
Newt had two responses which: (a) demonstrates that he is badly misinformed, and (b) he is trying to hard to be clever by half.
The AP reports Gingrich: Romney self-deportation plan a fantasy:
Republican Newt Gingrich says Mitt Romney’s call for self-deportation of illegal immigrants is an “Obama-level” fantasy that is inhumane to long-established families living in America.
And Newt slams Romney's world of Swiss bank accounts – Politico.com:
When asked about Romney's position on immigration, Gingrich said that deporting all undocumented immigrants is unrealistic.
"You have to live in a world of Swiss bank accounts and Cayman Island accounts and making $20 million for no work, to have some fantasy this far from reality," Gingrich said.
Sorry Newt, but that fantasy belongs to Arizona's Russell Pearce, not President Obama, and I am pretty confident that ol' Russell doesn't have any Swiss bank accounts and Cayman Island accounts, although the media may want to check just to be sure.
Newt Gingrich may be surging nationally in the GOP presidential primary, but this kind of "soft on immigriation" talk isn't going to win him any votes with Arizona's foaming-at-the-mouth rabid anti-immigrant Nativists.
NOTE: Romney has the backing of Kansas Secretary of State and anti-immigration zealot Kris Kobach (R), formerly with the legal arm of FAIR, and the author of both Arizona and Alabama’s anti-immigration laws.
