Following Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs State of the State Address, Democratic Senate Leader Priya Sundareshan and House Democratic Leader Oscar De Los Santos issued a social media video pledging to support the Governor’s agenda and reaffirmed their commitment, expressed in a joint interview with Blog for Arizona, to fight to improve the lives of Arizonan working and middle class families.

Earlier this morning, both leaders led a press event with Legislative Democrats at the Capitol Rose Garden to outline their priorities to help lower prices and advance a social justice agenda for Arizonans during the 2025 session.

In the video they released this evening, Senator Sundareshan started by saying:

“Democrats know that it is past time to put Working Families first to crack down on corporate greed and to make Arizona more affordable. Our priorities are your priorities. We are going to ensure our tax dollars, provide a quality public education for all by putting an end to the waste fraud and abuse in the Universal ESA Voucher program. We have bills ready to go that will help Arizona’s Working Families, by lowering the costs of housing and childcare, expanding healthcare to low-income families and capping the cost of prescription drugs.”

Representative De los Santos followed by offering a mainstream populist tone in his comments, stating:

“In Governor Hobbs State of the State address earlier today, Arizona, you heard a vision for our state built around many of those same priorities. I know that I am and I can confidently, say that Arizona should be proud that Governor Hobbs is working day in and day out, just as we are to make Arizona a more affordable place to live. Democrats are united because we’re no stranger to the fight before us. Rent costs are too high. Food costs through the roof. The American Dream of home ownership is out of reach for my generation. This is happening because corporate greed is running rampant and we can expect it to get worse with the incoming Trump Administration. Arizonans need someone on their side and Democrats are ready to step up.”

Senator Sundareshan reminded viewers that the fight for reproductive freedom is not quite over, relaying:

“All eyes were on Arizona just this past session when we repealed the draconian 1864 total, abortion ban, and voters overwhelmingly secured abortion rights in November. But the fight isn’t over. We are ready to keep the government out of your bedrooms and private lives by passing the Right to Contraception Act, the right to IVF a repeal of the statewide abortion reporting requirement and the Right to Privacy Act. We know that Arizona deserves better and we are going to fight tooth and nail to make sure that government starts working for you.”

Representative De los Santos continued his mainstream populist pitch, contending:

“It is unimaginable that foreign out of state corporations and the ultra wealthy are exploiting, our state through sweetheart deals, taking millions of gallons of our water every year and destabilizing our environment and our rural communities. These corporations have brought our state to a crisis, threatening our way of life, hurting rural, Arizona, farms, and families. Governor Hobbs, and your Democratic caucuses will work to stop corporations from stealing our water to ensure that Arizona would be a safe place for the Next Generation to call home. We’ll also work to repeal the greenhouse gas reporting prohibition to ensure that we have better air quality.”

Sundareshan picked up on De los Santo’s populist theme and the need to address climate change, offering:

“Protecting the future of our planet and the prosperity of our state won’t just happen by wishing for it. We know that building in Arizona for everyone demands that every Arizonan has a right to make their voice heard. So many of us are rightfully angry about the direction in which our nation is headed and we’re here to make sure you get the final say on where our state is headed as well. Democrats will fight like hell to protect every eligible Arizonans, right to cast a ballot.”

De Los Santos concluded by stating:

“This year, we have the chance to make Arizona more affordable by lowering prescription drug costs and cutting the cost of childcare and housing. We have the chance to protect public education, protect our water, protect our ability to choose how our future looks, to safeguard our access to the ballot box and so much more. And let me be clear. We will not let this moment pass us by.”

  1. What about Laken Reilly’s law that Hobbs supports, which would deport criminal aliens?
