So how did your campaign for state treasurer work out? You could not collect the “miniscule” number of signatures required to even file your petitions? Doesn’t look like “Libertarians are [going to be] elected in a tidal wave of revulsion come November.”
Like typos never happen. So what are you saying, that you are not a resident of Arizona? You should know there are residency requirements to be a candidate.
Any candidate gives voters a choice. The more choices for voters the better.
Thane Eichenauer
Libertarian Party write-in candidate for Arizona’s 1st congressional district 2008
3,678 people in CD 1 voted for me in the general election. If I hadn’t run then those people would have had no choice as good as the one I offered. None of my 2008 opponents advocated for an end to marijuana/drug prohibition nor an end to the occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan.
“Get serious” has always been antithetical to my political campaigns:

So the last thing I want is to be taken seriously! Arizona is a joke – surely everyone knows that. But you should understand that the mimimum number of signatures that a candidate needs to get on the primary varies, and not always with numbers registered in the party. Por ejemplo, in the Sixth Congressional District, the minimum number of signatures required:
DEMOCRATIC 121,841 610
REPUBLICAN 210,993 1,055
LIBERTARIAN 3,058 16
GREEN (no registration numbers listed) 221
The Green candidate would have to get more than 13 times as many signatures as the Libertarian and more than one-third of the signatures the Democrat needs. Do you suppose there are only three times as many registered Democrats as Greens in that district?
And I’m not sure why the Eighth C.D. Libertarian candidate should get many more than the 14 signatures he needs to get on the ballot.
But good luck to you and anyone who has to live in Arizona most of the time – and by the way, the word is “miniscule.”
Well, it’s hard for me to get signatures since I try not to step foot in Arizona and spend most of my time in the civilized world.
Also, it’s hard for the Secretary of State to distinguish the signatures of East Valley voters due to all the “X”s.
Get serious. You had months to collect a miniscual number of petition signatures to qualify for the ballot and didn’t, and now you want people to vote for you as a write-in? If you’re not willing to do the work, why should they?
The Green candidate Rebecca DeWitt in CD4 submitted only 104 signatures.
The Libertarian candidates are even worse: CD8 25 signatures; CD 5 26 signatures; CD 2 28 signatures; CD3 28 signatures; CD 4 74 signatures; CD7 82 signatures (Andrew Ibarra must have been trying to impress someone).
I can get 28 signatures to run for precinct committeeman in one weekend of door knocking (I only need 10). This is a ridiculously low qualifying number, barely more than a precinct committeeman. This is just another case of Libertarian “something for nothing” and then whining about wanting to be taken serious.
I have filed to run as a write-in candidate in the District 6 Green primary on August 24. If the Green voters of the C.D. want a candidate, they can have one. Till then, how can I resist not having the fun of blog posts like this: http://grayson-green.blogspot.com/2010/05/veteran-hating-dog-despising-jeff-flake.html?
