“September 24, 2015

Dear PCDP Executive Committee members: Since 2006 I have devoted my energies toward Democratic efforts in southern Arizona. I accepted the position of chair because I believed that my campaign management experience and passion for Democratic ideals would serve the party well. During the first six months I am extremely proud that we established, and fully funded, a capital fund to renovate the Pima County Democratic Party headquarters. We also established a Democratic ‘Bench’ Training program while raising the visibility of the party throughout the district. However, it appears that others within the leadership of the party disagree with my approach. Although I was willing to work and address our differences others were not. It is with great sadness, and great personal disappointment that I resign as Chair of Pima County Democratic Party effectively immediately.

With greatest respect and good wishes for the future, Cheryl A. Cage”

Cheryl Cage ran unsuccessfully twice against Senator Al Melvin for his seat in LD 26 in 2008 and 2010.  She recently chaired the successful campaign of LD 9 House Rep. Dr. Randy Friese in Nov. 2014 (and had chaired former LD 26 Rep. Lena Saranik’s successful campaign as well in 2006).  This recent win in LD 9 was an upset  over incumbent Republican Rep. Ethan Orr.

She succeeds former Chair Don Jorgensen,  as she was elected at the 2015 Pima County Reorganizational Meeting today. Here’s her resume:

Back on December 17, 2013 I reported for Tucsoncitizen.com that the JFK bust on a 5 foot tall pedestal at El Presidio Park (just west of the Pima County Courthouse) was stolen.  Here’s an update on that bust which had been placed there in 1964 (after President Kennedy was assassinated) by the Pima County Democratic Party.

Tucson Progressives & Democrats Back the ‘Back to Work’ Budget

Btw_3The following guest commentary about the current budget battles in DC was submitted to the Arizona Daily Star for publication. Since the Star chooses to primarily publicize Republican budget plans– and no other ideas, including those proposed by Southern Arizona Congressman Raul Grijalva– they didn't publish this commentary about the Congressional Progressive Caucus' Back to Work Budget. So, here you go…

On Tuesday, March 12th, the Congressional
Progressive Caucus released its proposed federal budget. Dubbed the “Back to
Work Budget”, it will be presented as an amendment to the already discredited
Paul Ryan
and Congressional Majority budget. The CPC budget will reduce the
Federal Budget Deficit by more than $4.4 trillion over the next 10 years, will
create 7 million new jobs in its first year, and preserve existing benefits for
Social Security and Medicare
. The Congressional Progressive Caucus’ “Back to
Work” budget will also make public healthcare affordable to the nation by
offering a public option.
