The best laugh line of the campaign?

by David Safier

The Hill made CD-8 its "Race of the Day" Monday. The main topic of the article is the fact that ALIPAC (Americans for Legal Immigration PAC) endorsed Kelly.

I posted awhile back about McCain's comments concerning ALIPAC when he was running against JD Hayworth, who, like Kelly, received an ALIPAC endorsement:

In a March statement, McCain spokesman Brian Rogers said the group "is backed by white supremacists, neo-Nazis and anti-Semites."

And now Johnnie's bouncing baby boy, Jesse Kelly, is endorsed by those same folks who are backed by the same "white supremacists, neo-Nazis and anti-Semites." But this time, no outrage from McCain. God is in his Heaven and all's well with Jesse.

Naturally, the Dems are doubling down on this, literally, going after McCain for his hypocrisy and Kelly for the endorsement. And Kelly is outraged.

Before I quote Kelly, I should note that the Republicans' use of the immigration issue probably qualifies and "exploitation" of a very serious and complex issue, wouldn't you say? (he said, wildly understating the wildly obvious). Republicans are kinda known for exploiting wedge issues and trying to make them the entire campaign.

With that in mind, here's what Kelly had to say about the way the Democrats are pointing to both the endorsement and McCain's earlier statement:

"It is despicable of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee to exploit such a serious issue in their desperate attempt to distract the voters from Giffords' record of bankrupting America and forcing Obamacare on Arizona," Kelly said in a statement to The Hill.

The serious issue they're exploiting? The involvement of people McCain refers to as "white supremacists, neo-Nazis and anti-Semites" in a PAC endorsing Kelly, while Kelly graciously accepts the endorsement and McCain smiles and gives his blessing.

I'd say that's simply pointing out the facts, not exploiting an issue.

You gotta love Kelly's gall. If he says it loud enough and sincerely enough, that makes it true for Jesse Kelly.

You just gotta love it.

Actually this is the standard operating procedure for the entrety of the ‘conservative’ movement. The truth is whatever gets shouted the loudest.
