The Flat Tax: AZ Republicans’ continuing War on the Poor and Middle Class

by David Safier

Class warfare is alive and well in Arizona. The Republicans want to increase the tax burden on the poor and middle class and lower taxes for the rich. They're not even hiding it any more.

The Joint Legislative Budget Committee table accompanying Howie Fischer's article on the proposed AZ flat tax lays it out as clear as day.

  • Make less than $100,000, your state taxes will go up between 10% and 352% (The 352% figure is for people making $10,000 to $20,000. Their taxes go from $67 to $303).
  • Make more than $100,000, and your taxes go down between 12% and 45%.

The biggest winners are millionaires. They will save anywhere from $30,000 to hundreds of thousands of dollars.
