The ‘Galt – Gekko 2012’ campaign says voters shouldn’t worry their pretty little heads about specifics – they have a ‘secret plan’

If you missed the Sunday morning bobblehead shows — and why wouldn't you have, it was the start of the NFL season for godssake! — you missed some Orwellian double-speak from the "Galt – Gekko 2012" campaign that demonstrated utter contempt for the voters. Team Orwell said voters shouldn't worry their pretty little heads about specifics – they have a "secret plan" that they will spring on us share if they are elected in November. That should disqualify this dangerous duo from public office.

Steve Benen writes, 'Specifics' and 'principles' are not the same thing:

There's growing impatience over the campaign's refusal to offer any
kind of substance or details, to the point that even some Fox News hosts

On "Meet the Press" yesterday, Romney went so far as to try to redefine what the word "specifics" means.

David Gregory specifically asked for "specifics" to explain how Romney "gets to this math." The Republican replied, "Well, the specifics are these which is, those principles I described are the heart of my policy."

In other words, in Mitt Romney's mind, specific policy details and broad statements about generalized goals are the same thing. When Gregory asked the candidate to name a single tax loophole he intends to close, Romney would not.

Remember when we were told that the selection of the GOP's alleged boy genius, Ayn Rand fanboy Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI), would elevate this campaign to a debate about big ideas? It looks like the GOP's big ideas guy doesn't want to share any details — he has a "secret plan."

On ABC, George Stephanopoulos pressed Paul Ryan on this, asked
whether "voters have a right to know which loopholes you're going to go
after." Ryan said voters would learn the details after the election, once the Romney administration begins workting with Congress.

Asked
if this constitutes "a secret plan," Ryan insisted it does not, saying
he and Romney "want to do this out in the open," having "this debate in
the public" — but not until after they're elected.

Holy crap! This guy has the brass to tell voters that they don't have the right to know any of the details about his "big ideas" during this election — you know, the very reason why we have elections — but he'll get back to them afterwards if they are foolish enough to elect "Galt – Gekko 2012." And why not — it worked for Richard Nixon. We don't get fooled again!

As Benen says, "I'd long assumed Ayn Rand inspired the Romney-Ryan script. Now, it's looking more like George Orwell."

UPDATE:The Washington Post in an editorial opinion on Tuesday writes Specifics, Mr. Romney: “I’ve demonstrated that I have the capacity to balance budgets,” Mr.
Romney said Sunday. That would be more reassuring if he were willing to
show the country a plan.
