Iowa (as any Minnesotan will tell you is an acronym for "idiots out wandering around") voted their Supreme Court Justices out of office last November because the court had ruled that same-sex couples could marry in civil unions, they are entitled to equal protection under the law.
This is the strongest case for merit selection and retention of judges that I can imagine; judges should not be subject to mob rule.
The GOP Taliban in Iowa is now trying to end civil unions in Iowa. Joint Resolution 6 would for the first time codify discrimination into the Iowa Constitution.
Zach Wahls, a 19-year-old University of Iowa student spoke about the strength of his family during a public forum on House Joint Resolution 6 in the Iowa House of Representatives. Wahls has two mothers, and came to oppose House Joint Resolution 6 which would end civil unions in Iowa.
