The Right-Wing Media Returns to Anti-Muslim Hysteria: ‘You Can’t Bring Them Here!’

After spending a day attacking President Joe Biden for the chaotic scenes in Kabul of Afghans desperate to leave the country, conservative opinion leaders who were quick to condemn President Joe Biden for failing to evacuate Afghan allies are now insisting that those Afghan refugees cannot be brought to the United States.

This should not be surprising. Quartz reported:

In 1975, when a first wave of refugees fled after the fall of South Vietnam, polls showed support for welcoming them into the US at 37% for and 49% against, with 14% uncertain.

In 1979 US president Jimmy Carter announced he would double the number of refugees from Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos accepted into the United States from 7,000 per month to 14,000. A poll from CBS and The New York Times showed that 62% of Americans disapproved. He did it anyway.

Because Jimmy Carter believed America had a moral duty to treat refugees with compassion after what the U.S. did to Southeast Asia.

Unlike the white supremacist propagandist purveyors of racial hatred at Fox News. Fox News has returned to its bread & butter of anti-Muslim hysteria: “They’re all terrorists who want to kill us! You can’t bring them here!

Fox News host of “White Power Hour,” Tucker Carlson Says U.S. Will Be ‘Invaded’ By Afghan Refugees:

Tucker Carlson on Monday told Fox News viewers that the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan would be used to bring “millions” of refugees to the U.S., which he described as an invasion.

“If history is any guide, and it’s always a guide, we will see many refugees from Afghanistan resettle in our country in the coming months, probably in your neighborhood,” the star personality said on “Tucker Carlson Tonight.” “And over the next decade, that number may swell to the millions.”

“So first we invade, and then we are invaded. It is always the same.”

No sense of human compassion or moral duty there. Only unadulterated white supremacist racist hatred.

It’s a predictable angle from Carlson, who routinely offers racist takes on immigration and has repeatedly echoed key aspects of the white nationalist “great replacement” doctrine on his show.

That conspiracy theory holds that white people are intentionally being replaced with immigrants. Carlson told viewers earlier this year that Democrats are “trying to replace the current electorate of voters” with “more obedient voters from the Third World” and repeated that rhetoric last week.

Prominent Republicans and Democrats alike have called on the U.S. to urgently accept Afghan citizens at risk of Taliban retaliation. Carlson criticized lawmakers on both sides for doing so.

“The people who made the Afghan occupation possible would like to see a lot more of our southern border, much more unrestrained immigration to the U.S. ‘Bring in the refugees!’ they’re screaming,” he said.

And then there is the Aryan Princess of white supremacy at Fox News – her own brother says that her views were shaped by an ‘abusive’ father who kept a copy of ‘Mein Kampf’ in the living roomLaura Ingraham says Biden better not bring any Afghan refugees fleeing the Taliban to the US:

Right-wing provacateur Laura Ingraham blames President Joe Biden for the tragic withdrawal from Afghanistan, but her main concern is the idea that Biden would allow any Afghanis into the U.S.

On her Monday show, the Fox News host complained about Afghan people making their way to the United States. “Is it really our responsibility to welcome thousands of un-vetted refugees from Afghanistan?” she asked.

Ingraham noted that all day people have been saying that the U.S. promised them we’d save them.

“Who did?” Did you [Fox viewers]?” she asked.

And then, of course, there is former Chief Strategist and Senior Counselor to Donald Trump, Steve Bannon, on his War Room program. ‘No need to come to Texas’: Republicans freak out about Afghans coming to US after demanding rescue missions:

Right-wing broadcaster Steve Bannon made the point on his Tuesday War Room program.

“That photo of the 800 people on the plane — only 150 Americans,” Bannon noted. “And the question is where are they taking these, the people that helped us in Afghanistan, the commandos, the interpreters, all that — you’ve got to stay in region.”

“No need for anybody to come to the good old United States of America,” he added. “Everybody take a deep breath. Let’s get them out of there. Let’s get them out of Afghanistan. But no need to come to Wisconsin or Texas.”

Note: Has this racist piece of shit ever been to Houston? It already has the largest South Asian communities (India, Pakistan, Afghanistan) in Texas. Resettling these refugees in Houston would give them the support system they are going to need. (Houston also has the largest Vietnamese community in Texas).

Rep. Marjorie “Q” Greene (R-GA), who appeared on Bannon’s program, agreed with the right-wing host.

“And we don’t have to hear about refugees being brought into our country leading to the likeness of Ilhan Omar becoming members of Congress one day,” she said.

Florida Rep. Anthony Sabatini echoed the sentiment in a tweet.

“Any Republican that doesn’t help fight against the plan to bring 100k Afghans into the country must be primaried,” he wrote. “Every @GOP official must go on record NOW.”
