The Tea-Publican Crazy Train Has Left The Station

The Birthers-Birchers-Secessionists of the Tea-Publican Party crazy train have left the station and are hurtling down the track.

Last week Rep. Carl "barking mad" Seel and Crazy Uncle Joe Arpaio tried to revive Seel's "Birther" bill in the Arizona legislature. Birther Madness. Their efforts did not appear to revive his bill.

Also last week, Rep. David Gowan, R-Sierra Vista, would require employees of federal agencies to first notify the sheriff of the county "before taking any official law enforcement action in a county in this state." 'States' Rights' Tea-Publicans run amok. His "strike everything" amendment to HB 2434 passed the "Border Security, Federalism and States Sovereignty" Committee (they don't even try to hide the crazy any more), and the bill is awaiting a committee of the whole (COW) vote in the Senate. It is expected to pass the Senate and be sent to the House. The federal government will ignore this unconstitutional bill.

Sen. "Cap'n Al" Melvin, R-Saddlebrook, is the sponsor of SCR 1008, a resolution that would declare an emergency and allow Arizona to invoke its sovereignty ("States' rights!"). The resolution has passed the Senate and is awaiting final action in the House.

Not to be outdone, some rich guy who wants to piss away his money on the Neoconfederate "nullification" theory has filed the "Checks and Balances in Government" Initiative (demonstrating that he does not understand this term). Power to override US laws sought in new initiative:

A Phoenix business owner launched an initiative drive Monday designed to let Arizona voters override federal laws.

And John Biltis said he's prepared to spend millions of dollars of his own money to put the issue on the November ballot and persuade Arizonans to approve it.

The initiative would leave in place a provision in Arizona's Constitution that says the federal Constitution "is the supreme law of the land." But it proposes to add language saying the federal document may not be violated by any government – including the federal government.

More to the point, it would allow Arizonans "to reject any federal action that they determine violates the United States Constitution." And they would be able to do this either through a vote of the state House and Senate with consent of the governor, or through a popular vote on a ballot measure.

Dude, spend your millions getting an education. The Supremacy Clause, Article VI, Clause 2 of the U.S. Constitution and the 14th Amendment following the American Civil War put an end to the nullification theory forever. What you propose is unconstitutional. The Civil War is over Johnny Reb, get over it.

Sen. Sylvia "6,000 years" Allen, R-Snowflake, and her "Arizona Special Missions Unit" bill, SB 1083, has cleared the Senate Tea-Publican Senate votes to give the governor an 'Arizona Special Missions Unit' border militia, and the House Rules committee and is awating action by the full House. Tea-Publican House committee votes to give the governor an 'Arizona Special Missions Unit' border militia.

The Arizona Daily Star today published a guest opinion by Luke Taylor, Army Colonel Ret., who is the co-leader of the Senate working group on this bill. Support the measure to create Arizona's armed Special Missions Unit.

Mr. Taylor's opinion is purposefully deceptive by ommission, leaving out all the details from committee hearings on this bill including Sen. Sylvia "6,000 years" Allen ranting about Hezbollah terrorists training drug cartels in Mexico, and the Senate calling upon Glenn Spencer, Nativist Anti-Semite, to Lecture State Senate Border Security Committee on this bill. Yeah, this says credibility.

Democratic legislators have told me that the notebook passed around to legislators on this "Arizona Special Missions Unit" was heavy on drawings of their proposed uniforms, but the tab for training of this unit was empty. The money to pay for the Governor's "Arizona Special Missions Unit" is being taken from other legitimate law enforcement agencies.

Col. Taylor and I can agree on one thing: "Tell your representatives in the Arizona Legislature your views." Tell them to vote against this colossal waste of money and liability insurance risk to the state of Arizona. These clowns are likely to start an international incident or a war with Mexico.

UPDATE: I can't believe I almost missed this one from "Birther Queen" Judy Burges. 'Tea party'-backed bill to halt green programs:

Arizona "tea party" members are pushing through legislation to quash government-funded efforts to reduce pollution and improve energy efficiency in cities, counties and the state.

Critics of Senate Bill 1507, sponsored by Sen. Judy Burges, R-Sun City West, say the bill would shut down any government-led environmental initiative, such as Energize Phoenix, a $25 million, stimulus-funded project to improve energy efficiency in homes and businesses along the light-rail corridors in central Phoenix.

Critics also say the bill is based on a tea-party conspiracy theory about a 1992 United Nations declaration.

The bill would bar the state and Arizona counties and cities "from adopting or implementing the United Nations Rio Declaration on Environment and Development."

Similar bills opposed to the 1992 U.N. declaration and its guiding principles — to protect the Earth, all living things on it and to eradicate poverty — have been proposed by legislators in at least three other states: Kansas, New Hampshire and Tennessee.

The Arizona bill has advanced the furthest in the legislative process. While lawmakers in the other three states declined to hear arguments or rejected the proposed bills in committees, Burges' bill has progressed with majority votes in a Senate committee, the Senate floor and, last week, a House committee. It now awaits discussion and a vote on the House floor.

At the House Judiciary Committee meeting last week, Burges said the U.N. declaration intended to "create social engineering of our citizens, and will have an impact on every aspect of our daily lives including where we live, what we eat — every aspect of our lives."

Originally, SB 1507 was a bill about "unemployment," but through a strike-everything amendment with the purpose of a "technical correction," Burges proposed substituting it with her measure, which won majority approval in the Senate Judiciary Committee and on the Senate floor.

Wes Harris, a Phoenix resident and tea-party member, also testified with Burges, repeating theories about the declaration that have been floated among conservative organizations such as the John Birch Society, which refer to the declaration as "Agenda 21."

Harris claimed the declaration "is an attempt to implement a one-world order. It's been going on for 20 years. It has not been ratified by the U.S. Senate. It has been snuck around the back door by the Clinton administration."

BTW, this is the same Wes Harris who assisted sham candidate Olivia Cortes in the Recall of Russell Pearce. Now that was a real conspiracy.
