Who is Juan Ciscomani?
He appears to be a moderate with his short haircut and business suit. But don’t be fooled. He’s a Trump stooge running for re-election in Congressional District 6 (Tucson) with an anti-abortion, anti-consumer and anti-clean energy voting record.
Helping the Rich, Hurting the Middle Class
Ciscomani co-sponsored the falsely-named Main Street Tax Certainty Act, which would extend tax breaks for the ultra-wealthy and give tax breaks to big corporations. He also co-sponsored the “Death Tax Repeal Act,” which would eliminate taxes on inherited fortunes.
He voted for a bill that would have cut 80% of federal grants for financial assistance to local schools with low-income families to meet academic standards.
He voted for the Default on America Act, which would impose harsh work requirements to get food stamps. The bill would also spur a recession and kill 780,000 jobs.
The Worm that is Eating Ciscomani’s Brain
What is driving Ciscomani’s dangerous and malicious worldview? Why would anyone support helping the rich to get richer while hurting everyone else, taking freedoms away from everyday citizens, and ignoring climate change?
The worm eating Ciscomani’s brain is his Christian Nationalist group called the Patriot Academy, which he founded and directed for 14 years.
Christian Nationalism is a political movement that seeks to cancel the separation between church and state. The members demand that America become a white Christian nation. This viewpoint excludes all other religions and races. The totalitarian goal is to put white Christian men in charge of seven areas: schools, family, religion, the media, entertainment, business, and government.
For Christian Nationalists, the laws of the country would establish a theocratic authoritarian state, since we are now ruled by “godless communists.” They want:
- White Christian men to rule.
- Christian propaganda to be taught in schools.
- Public tax money to fund their private schools.
- Roll back women’s rights and abortion access.
- Limit minorities’ rights.
- Deport immigrants.
- End the civil rights of gay and trans people and permit discrimination against them.
The Patriot Academy aims to equip young leaders to promote a Biblical worldview in the political arena – and also trains grade school kids to use guns to shoot to kill.
“I can wholeheartedly say that nothing in my life has given me a clearer direction for my life than Patriot Academy,” Ciscomani confessed.
Republican Study Committee will Increase Medical Costs
As a member of the reactionary Republican Study Committee, he favors eliminating the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau to allow unfair, deceptive, or abusive practices in the financial services industry.
That Committee also favors eliminating the National Labor Relations Board, which would crush labor unions. Not only that, but the Committee also supports repealing the corporate minimum tax.
If you’re concerned about the cost of medical care, Ciscomani is not on your side. As a member of the Republican Study Committee, he supports:
- Weakening protections for people with pre-existing conditions.
- Ending Medicare’s ability to negotiate drug prices.
- Lifting the caps on monthly insulin costs.
- Increasing out-of-pocket drug costs for Medicare beneficiaries.
- Converting Medicare to a “Premium Support Model,” privatizing Medicare and worsening health outcomes in our country.
Taking Away Our Freedoms
A woman’s right to choose is in jeopardy if Ciscomani gets his way. The dangerous Study Committee supports the Life at Conception Act, which would outlaw abortion from the moment of conception and put In Vitro Fertilization at risk.
Ciscomani voted for bills that contained extreme policy riders that would create a “license to discriminate” against LGBTQ+ people.
If you recognize global climate change and the need to reduce fossil fuel emissions, you’re out of luck with Ciscomani. He voted for the “Lower Energy Costs Act,” requiring the Bureau of Land Management to hold quarterly auctions for fossil fuel leases on federal land.
This measure and the “Default on America Act” would have sabotaged the Inflation Reduction Act’s climate provisions to cut electric bills and reduce emissions. These failed bills would have increased the cost of energy efficiency and endangered thousands of clean energy jobs.
Ciscomani voted for bills that repealed energy efficiency rules for dishwashers and refrigerators, making it more difficult for the Department of Energy to create energy efficiency standards on home appliances.
This is the man who wants to continue as Arizona’s Congressman. This is who Juan Ciscomani is. Does he represent you? If not, vote for Kirsten Engel!
