MAGA supporters never learn.
They have this consistent habit of nominating candidates that are damaged goods who are either ethically challenged, legally compromised, or both.
Donald Trump is one such person.
Maricopa County County Republican Nominee for Sheriff Jerry Sheridan is another.
Before thinking this is deja vu, readers would be right to remember that voters have already seen this movie.
Sheridan, still with all the political baggage of being a Joe Arpaio’s willing apostate at the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Department, ran for the same office in 2020 and lost to Paul Penzone.
Four years later, the baggage has not gone away. Please click here to read all the articles the Blog for Arizona ran during the time, reporting on Mr. Sheridan’s corruption, his support for MAGA methods and supporters, his utilization of racist language including the N word, and how his badge would have been taken away if not for a quorum technicality.
And he is adding to the baggage.
On August 23, 2024, Mr. Sheridan appeared at the Trump/Vance rally in Glendale.
Please click on the 54 minute mark to hear Mr. Sheridan’s remarks.
While everyone would agree with Mr. Sheridan that people who abuse others and animals should be prosecuted, Sheridan, in his remarks, ignored all the times he ventured into the well publicized journeys into corruption and illegal territory when serving as a Maricopa County Deputy, portraying himself as a protector of public safety and citizen’s civil liberties.
He also strayed into MAGA World with his praise of White-Christian Nationalist and Trump loving Turning Point Action, the sponsors of the rally and ordained turnout gurus for the Trump/Vance Campaign.
Among his final comments, Sheridan said:
“Turning Point Action is helping all of us. All of the candidates you’ll see here today get us elected here in Maricopa County and in Arizona by chasing those ballots. It’s so critical that we all vote. There should never be a ballot left on somebody’s kitchen table. Well, Republican ballots. They can leave the Democrat ones.”
So much for being a protector of all citizen’s civil liberties.
Most Maricopa County voters are probably hoping this 2024 sequel ends the same way the 2020 original ended.
With a Sheridan defeat.
