Tucson Mayor Regina Romero Seeks to Calm Tucsonans’ Fears About Trump Actions

In a video posted on Instagram, Tucson Mayor Regina Romero sought to reassure Tucsonans that she and the City Council will work to ensure that they will exercise all legal options to stop Trump/Vance Administration efforts to block allocated federal funds from coming to the city.

The transcript of the Mayor’s comments is below:

Hi Everyone. This is Tucson Mayor Regina Romero. Just wanting to explain as some of the chaos, fear, and confusion that the Trump Administration is putting out in our country.”

“Let’s talk through this noise and talk about how his executive orders may affect, the City of Tucson, our residents and frankly cities across the country.”

“The order to freeze federal funds. That could possibly affect the City of Tucson to the tune of 300 million dollars. Thirteen million dollars alone that go to our fire department, to make sure that we’re providing you medical and Emergency Services. Thirty three million dollars to the Tucson Police Department, and those funds serve to investigate sexual assault crimes, and domestic violence crimes and to reduce gun violence. Eighty million dollars plus will affect the water security and more than a 100 million dollars could be pulled out that offer services for affordable housing and shelter for vulnerable communities.”

“Your mayor and Council will do everything we possibly can to help protect those funds from being ripped out of the City of Tucson. I am going to do everything possible to work with our Congressional Delegation and other jurisdictions to make sure that we keep those funds here where they belong. I’m also going to be communicating with you, making sure that we clarify any Executive Orders or other orders that are coming down from the Trump Administration.”

“Thank you so much for your time. I am going to fight every day to make sure that we provide the services that you deserve.”
