Veterans upset with Jeff Flake’s attack on veteran Richard Carmona

Posted by AzBlueMeanie:

Last week Alexis Tameron from the Dr. Richard Carmona for U.S. Senate campaign sent out a memo to the media on the state of the race and predicted a long hot summer for Rep. Flake in his GOP primary contest with Richie Rich Wil Cardon. AZ/DC Blog – Carmona campaign predicts 'miserable' summer for Flake.

Rep. Flake responded to Tameron's memo with a tweet on Twitter:

@carmonaforaz predicts hot miserable summer 4 me. He's right. I've got races 2 win. No cool, cushy confines of Canyon Ranch for me. #azsen

Andy Barr from the Dr. Richard Carmona for U.S. Senate campaign sends Blog for Arizona this e-mail:

Flake's comment (he tweeted it) has some local veterans leaders pretty incensed. David Lucier, also a special forces vet and now head of the Arizona Veterans Foundation, got in touch with me because he wants to respond to Flake on this — I've included the quote he wanted to put out below.

From Lucier: "Like me, Rich Carmona trained for almost two years to become a Special Forces medic…a Green Beret,  who served his country in Vietnam — and I can assure you that there was nothing cushy about those experiences.  After receiving two Bronze Stars and two Purple Hearts, Rich came home from Vietnam and went to medical school… again, not too cushy.   He once again volunteered to serve his community by becoming a cop and SWAT team leader for the Pima County Sheriff's Department. Ask any cop, that's not exactly 'cushy' work either."

Before his six terms in Washington, Congressman Flake's only previous work had been as a lobbyist and head of a policy institute. Now, those jobs sound pretty cushy.

Jeff Flake is the former executive director of the Goldwater Institute. That alone should disqualify anyone from serving in public office.

  1. I would just as well Jeff Flake win or loose based on his past or current actions and positions. I would hope that Carmona has actions and positions far more substantive than the 140 character quips permitted on twitter.

  2. Another right wing republican insulting a veteran ! They (the republicans) will stop at nothing to obtain power whether it means trying to destroy the reputation of a good man like Mr. Carmona or attacking women for trying to obtain health care by calling them the “S” word. I would say Mr. Flake should be ashamed of himself but…that would mean that he has some shame to begin with.
