What One Person Can Do

“I’m only one person, what can I do?”   How many times have you heard that, or said that yourself?

It’s an attitude foreign to the American character, and to a great extent it is the reason we
are where we are today.  I remind you of the words of Margaret Mead, "A small group of thoughtful people could change the world. Indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has."

The revolutionary changes in the
world have generally come from one person, or a small group of people. Most people when they look at people who changed the world look to great leaders who engaged the passions and expressed the will of millions; think Washington, Churchill, Lincoln,
and Roosevelt. But that is not the norm. New ideas and new ways of seeing and understanding the world are given to us by individual thinkers and scientists; think Einstein, Galileo,
Newton, Darwin, Watson and Crick. New ideas about how to create a just and moral social order are also created and championed by lone reformers; think Frederick Douglass, MLK, Gandhi, Samuel Gompers, and Betty Friedan. Whether in matters of spirituality (Jesus, Mohammed, Dalai Lama, and Martin Luther), literary and journalistic endeavor (Harriet Beecher Stowe, George Orwell, Horace Greeley, and Upton Sinclair), or any other field of human endeavor, great changes come from individual human beings.

The life of a nation does not consist only of a privileged or powerful few, but of millions of unique and influential lives. I’m currently reading "1001 People Who made America" by Alan Axelrod. He gives us a glimpse of the tremendous diversity of contributions that go into creating a great nation.

In each and every one of us there is the power to make a change, large or small. Here’s
just a few of the things that don’t take much time or effort that one
person can do to make a difference.  Sometimes one person can wholly remake
the world, but that’s rare. But think what could happen if everyone committed to change their little corner of it, just a bit, for the better.

Here’s a (not-all-that-)short list of things you can do without
having to be a revolutionary or a genius, only an American who cares where we go from here.

  1. I have concern that OBSESSIVE CAPITALIZATION causes ones READERS to question THE WRITER’S MOTIVES, SINCERITY, and SANITY. I also find it ENTERTAINING that a troll with SUCH AN obssession WITH illeageal IMMigraSHUN HAS such problems SPELLING THE Names OF COUNTREEEEESS she is WORRIED ABOUT!

OK, I just gave myself a headache.

  2. Francine is right about running for office, but McCain Feingold took care of that for the regular folks.

I looked over the long list of things to do and saw it is mostly a list for ACTIVISM. I hope this activism translates into JOB ETHICS and a UNION MOVEMENT to RETURN THE MIDDLE CLASS to The United States that has been OUTSOURCED! Granted we need 30 million Mexicans to do work Americans will NOT do, but who is going to pay them to do the work?

Unless you have lived on the Moon for the past 30 years most of The United States Big Corporations have Left for other Countries, and if not altogether are setting up shop in these countries to enable a QUICK RELEASE from American soil, and its tax base!

With-out a Strong Labor movement and rebuilding Trust In The Labor Movement as it saved us in the middle of the last century creating a class of people that sustained the TAX BASE in the United States for decades; is now in decline. If this continues there will be NO TAX BASE TO FUND ; NATIONAL HEALTH CARE FOR ILLEGAL ENTRANTS;SOCIAL SECURITY FOR ILLEGAL ENTRANTS;A MINIMUM WAGE FOR ILLEGAL ENTRANTS;LOW INTEREST LOANS FOR ILLEGAL ENTRANTS;OR JOBS FOR ILLEGAL ENTRANTS PROVIDED BUY GOVERNMENT’S THAT ARE LOCAL, STATE OR FEDERAL!

As we have become a Nation of Illegal Entrant Rights over that of a Law Abiding United States Citizen, and that Citizen must PAY ALL THE BILLS run up by Illegal Entrants; for 40% of the United States Prison Population, Car Insurance, Homeowners Insurance, Property Taxes, and needs for MASSIVE INFASTRUCTURE CONSTRUCTION to sustain a WORLD WIDE IMMIGRATION NOT JUST FROM MEXICO BUT FROM SAMOLIA, SOUTH AFRICA, IRAQ,JORDAN,ISREAL,GREAT BRITAIN,INDIA,CHINA,IRAN,RUSSIA just to name a few.

I have concern that our CARBON FOOTPRINT having everyone in the WORLD LIVING INSIDE THE UNITED STATES might be UNSIDEDOWN because we in The United States can NOT turn on a LIGHT BULB with-out creating Global Warming!

Bottom line IS we in The United States better get a GRIP on our Government before Illegal Entrants do and we become the ILLEGAL ENTRANT!

  3. Great list but I was disappointed not to see included – VOTE in elections and RUN for office – any office! What is needed most in our America is for each individual to consider her/himself an indispensable member of society whose single vote can change the world.
