What has Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes and her team done this week?
Put away, drug dealers and traffickers.
Helped secure an appeals court’s vacating of the Arizona Corporation Commission’s imposition of a utility surcharge on Arizona consumers at the behest of APS.
Late last month, her office obtained a conviction of a parent who fraudulently took Arizona taxpayer money from the ESA private school voucher program after she and her child moved to Texas.
What was one of her potential Republican 2026 opponents, State Senator Warren Peterson, doing for law and order and civil liberties?
He is backing attempts to fight ballot initiatives designed to reform the ESA system and stop criminals from defrauding the Arizona taxpayer.
He supports the United States Supreme Court decision gutting the Voting Rights Act, wanting the Arizona courts to allow the redrawing of Congressional districts along whiter lines.
Earlier today (June 17, 2026) Peterson, who has been endorsed by the disgraced Joe Arpaio, reacted to a social media post of Attorney General Mayes expressing support for Dreamers by posting:
“Here is some free legal advice to our sitting AG. DACA is found nowhere in the Constitution.
Just another reason why every major law enforcement organization has endorsed me and not Mayes. She isn’t even hiding it. She is not for law enforcement or the law.
She is fighting to protect illegals. I will keep our border secure and will work with the federal government to deport everyone who enters this country illegally.
We welcome everyone who comes here legally and abides by the law. But be ready to be deported or prosecuted if you don’t.”
What a warm and inclusive person Senator Peterson is.
Not!
Reacting to Peterson’s childish xenophobic fit against her and innocent people, Attorney General Mayes posted:
“News flash Warren: DACA recipients are police officers, firefighters, nurses and small business owners in Arizona. And you just announced to the world that you think they are criminals and should be deported. Disqualifying.”
Mayes Re-Election Campaign Communications Director, Delaney Corcoran, backed up Mayes post in a press release, writing:
“When Petersen tells Dreamers to prepare for prosecution and deportation, he’s telling Arizonans to prepare for a term of terrorization and family separation. He’s basically promising to be an AG in the style of Arpaio. This is a serious threat to tens of thousands of Arizonans and their loved ones.”

The press release also relayed:
“Petersen’s comments target thousands of Arizona Dreamers who grew up in our communities, attended Arizona schools, and contribute every day to the state’s economy and public safety. Many know no other home. More than 72,000 Dreamers live in Arizona with close to 35,000 eligible for DACA or Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals status. For more than a decade, DACA recipients have worked, paid taxes, started businesses, and served their communities across Arizona.”
Arizona House Democratic Leader Oscar De Los Santos condemned Peterson’s remarks, writing:
“Arizona Senate President Warren Petersen, who is running for Attorney General, just declared war on Dreamers. He said that Dreamers should “be ready to be deported or prosecuted” if he becomes AG. This is 100% disqualifying.”
Former Arizona Democratic Party Chairperson Raquel Teran also chastised Peterson, offering:
“I want to see you say this with the same energy when you’re sitting in front of Spanish-language media doing interviews in Spanish.
Hypocrite.
You are such a MAGA extremist at your core! Arizonans will see right through you and your lack of leadership. ¡Adios!”
