The golfer-in-charge has attempted to block Federal funds from reaching its Congressionally authorized recipients. After bamboozling voters into thinking that he will save the country from imaginary barbarian invaders and lowering the cost of eggs, the actual barbarian is now preventing much-needed funds from going to Medicaid, medical research, disaster aid, and thousands of other much-needed programs in the country.
As I write this, I see that a coalition of 23 Attorneys General (including our own Kris Mayes here in AZ) has gotten a Federal Judge to block this freeze (at least temporarily). Thank goodness for some reasonable AGs! Never forget how important that position is! But we can expect one outrage after another from this barbarian. And in the meanwhile, systems that need long-term stability (at least from year to year!) are thrown into confusion.
I hope that the forces of progress will quickly find a way to reverse this permanently. But in the meanwhile, we see a dictatorial act that is among the worst that we could have imagined – if he is allowed to do it, we will have abandoned the checks and balances of our republic. He will truly be a dictator, and not one that has the wisdom and benevolence imagined for philosopher kings by Plato.
This is going to be a long and exhausting struggle. We have to stay in it. To win it.
