Freshmen House Democrats elected Yassamin Ansari as the President of their group.
In a press release the Arizona House Congressional District (CD) Three Representative-Elect said:
“I’m honored by this vote of trust from my fellow freshman class. We’ve spent the last ten days getting to know each other and finding our footing and I can already tell how much I will value these relationships as we all navigate our new roles.
I believe I can serve our class deeply and meaningfully by instilling a sense of camaraderie, support, and community at a time when it is most needed.
I look forward to creating opportunities for the class to connect and engage throughout the year. I plan on working with the Republican freshman president to hold quarterly programming for the entire class, to foster bipartisan relationships.
I will support my Democratic classmates in Red to Blue and frontline districts through fundraising. Following my primary election, I raised $100,000 for the DCCC through the True Blue program, an amount that I intend to build upon in the coming years to help ensure we win back the House majority in 2026.
As the Democratic party grapples with what’s next and how to reach people where they are, I intend to use my role as the youngest woman in the 119th Congress to lead efforts to improve across non-traditional communication channels.
I also believe my service as Class President is a small signal to Democratic voters, and especially young people, that the party is ready for new, young voices in Congress to be given opportunities to lead.”
Later on social media, Ms. Ansari posted:
Fellow Freshman Robert Garcia congratulated Ansari, posting:
So has Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego who posted:
Ansari, the first Iranian-American Woman to serve in the House of Representatives, has already made a favorable impression in her first weeks in freshman orientation, speaking out against Trump’s unqualified and reactionary picks for the Cabinet and Executive Branch while also defending fellow freshman Sarah McBride from MAGA discrimination regarding her use of women’s restrooms.
