‘Yeah, Toast!’

U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords asked for toast with her breakfast. Giffords to aide: Toast, please:

Giffords' chief of staff, Pia Carusone, told CBS Evening News Wednesday that she was eating breakfast with Giffords a few days ago – Giffords had oatmeal and yogurt – when the congresswoman asked if she could have toast. "I smiled and said, 'We're happy to get you toast,' " Carusone said.

"It wasn't the first time she'd spoken, but certainly great to see that sort of recovery happen in front of you," she said.

Carusone later told the Star she doesn't feel it's her place to reveal what Giffords' first words were after being injured. She said she isn't sure whether those words were spoken to Giffords' husband, Mark Kelly, or to a speech therapist or someone else.

"I think Mark and Gabby would be happy to share those intimate details" in time, at their own pace, Carusone said.

Well, this is good news. In honor of Gabby's request for toast with her breakfast, let's all sing Heywood Banks' song "Yeah, Toast!" this morning.
