Tuesday is a vital election for this country and Arizona.
And not just at the Presidential, Senatorial, and Congressional Levels.
Other down-ballot races are just as vital to the future of Arizona and the nation.
Specifically, which party can shape policy at the 50 state legislatures nationwide?
Think about what the Arizona Republican-controlled Legislature did when it had Doug Ducey in the Governor’s office to sign its prototype MAGA-Project 2025 edicts.
- Budget-busting tax cuts for the wealthy.
- Budget-busting voucher expansion welfare programs for the wealthy.
- Doing away with the Permanent Early Voting Mailing List.
- Banning a woman’s right to reproductive freedom after 15 weeks.
Think about how many of these same Republicans stymied some of Democratic Governor Katie Hobbs’s policy goals over the last two years including fully funding public schools.
As Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee (DLCC) leader Heather Williams said at an August press call, “States like Arizona are at the forefront of shaping the future direction of our country.”
Or what State Senator and ADLCC Co-Chair Priya Sundareshan said at the same event:
“The MAGA extremists continue to move their extreme and harmful agenda through the state. That’s why this year is so critical. There’s too much at stake.”
Do Arizonans really want another MAGA-Republican-dominated State Legislature where policy is shaped by the likes of Anti-Vaxer-Pro White Nationalist-Let’s sing the Nazi rally song Wendy Rogers, potentially returning conspiracy and election denying Vince Leach, and January 6, 2021 attendee Mark Finchem?
Probably not.
These are the Democratic incumbents and candidates, who if they all prevail, will defeat MAGA-loving candidates like Vince Leach and give control of the State Legislature to the pro-people party for the first time in half a century.
Stephanie Simacek (LD-2, House)
Karen Gresham (LD-4, House)
Rep. Seth Blattman (LD-9, House)
Nicholas Gonzales (LD-13, House)
Brandy Reese (LD-13, House)
Rep. Keith Seaman (LD-16, House)
Kevin Volk (LD-17, House)
Rep. Judy Schwiebert (LD-2, Senate)
Sen. Christine Marsh (LD-4, Senate)
Sharon Winters (LD-13, Senate)
Stacey Seaman (LD-16, Senate)
John McLean (LD-17, Senate)
Representative Lorena Austin (LD-9, House)
Deborah Howard (LD-27, House)
Senator Eva Burch (LD-9, Senate)
With Governor Katie Hobbs at the helm, it will also give the Democrats a trifecta in the governing process that will work to undo the legislative mistakes of the MAGA-Republican-Project 2025 agenda including:
- Fully funding public schools.
- Reforming and cutting back on the welfare for the wealthy school voucher system.
- More assistance for affordable housing and health care.
- Greater attention to the water crisis and clean energy sustainability.
- Expanding access to the ballot box.
If Arizona voters want a legislature that will work with Katie Hobbs to advance a pro-people agenda that moves the Grand Canyon state forward and lifts Arizonans up, vote Blue on Tuesday.
