$16 for Eggs! Trump Fails to Keep Promise to Lower Prices

“When I win, I will immediately bring prices down, starting on day one,” Trump promised during his presidential run.

Instead, Trump has allowed inflation to run rampant, and prices are through the roof.

“Donald Trump said he’d fight inflation, but he hasn’t. Groceries are up. Chicken, pork, and steak are all more expensive. Egg prices are up 15% from last month. Gas prices are up 2% from last month. The prices of used cars are up. The price of heating your home is up. Housing costs are through the roof,” said Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY).

“Welcome to the age of Trumpflation,” he added.

A visit to my local Safeway revealed these outrageous prices:

  • A dozen eggs for $16 (marked down to $13). This time last year, the average price for a dozen eggs was around $3.
  • Cheese sticks for $8.50.
  • Half-gallon of milk for $6.
  • Three-pound steak for $26.74.
  • Raisin Bran cereal for $8.
  • Red Bull energy drink $9.50.
  • Gain laundry detergent for $18.
  • Charmin bath tissue for $32.
  • Turkey lunchmeat for $8.
  • Honey for $15.

‘Donald Trump is already breaking his promise to the American people. Inflation is the number one concern of most Americans,” Schumer said. “But he is not doing that. He’s focused on everything else except what Americans want most.”

The annual inflation rate has risen in the three months since the November election to 3%, with gasoline prices climbing despite Trump’s claims that his return to the White House would signal increased oil production that would lower energy costs.

The average rent in Tucson is $1,626 and $2,750 in Oro Valley. The average cost to buy a house in Tucson is $479,855. The median home price in Tucson has increased 30% since mid-2020.

And Trump is doing nothing about the high cost of living. “If Donald Trump is not careful, inflation will crush his presidency and eat it alive because that is where Americans want him to be focused. They want him focused on fixing the inflation crisis, the inflation problem, and bringing prices down,” said CNN data reporter Harry Enten.

Inflation is the number 1 thing Americans say Trump should be focused on, but most Americans (66%) say Trump isn’t focused enough on inflation. Only 27% ― barely one in four voters ― called the economy excellent or good.

Coffee is at a 47-year high, driven by climate disruptions in Brazil and Vietnam, the world’s largest producers. The cost of frozen orange juice has nearly doubled since 2020. Flour, too, has become more expensive in recent years, with prices spiking.

US restaurants are also struggling due to inflation. “No one wants to go to a breakfast place and have to pay $25,” said a restaurant operator.

Trump is oblivious to the cost of living. “They all said inflation was the No. 1 issue,” Trump said following his inauguration address. “I said, ‘I disagree. I think people coming into our country from prisons and from mental institutions is a bigger issue for the people that I know.’

(It’s been fact-checked many times that migrants were not coming into the country from prisons and mental institutions, but Trump continues to say it.)

  1. A perpetual con man pulling a con on the gullible? Who could have predicted that? But don’t worry, JK will always defend him.
