The death of truth: ‘lazy’ lying Tea-Publicans
November 18, 2011
Posted by AzBlueMeanie: Steve Benen makes an important point: The truth is supposed to matter most. Unfortunately, the modern corporate media believes in "balanced" reporting rather than truthful reporting. This leads to the corporate media giving equal time and equal weight to obviously false or patently ridiculous statements to factual and truthful statements, creating false equivalencies
Succeeding by doing nothing
November 18, 2011
Posted by AzBlueMeanie: I posted about the proposal to "do nothing" and let the Bush tax cuts expire earlier this year to produce the $4 trillion "grand bargain" that the White House and Tea-Publican leaders failed to agree upon before nearly defaulting on the U.S. debt this summer. Now the proposal to "do nothing" is
Just so you know
November 18, 2011
by David Safier Anyone wanting to know the Republican response to the reinstatement of Colleen Mathis need look no further than this Media Release from the Scarp-meister himself, Daniel Scarpinato, Communications Director for the House Republicans. Yeah, it says it's from Speaker Andy Tobin, but the Scarpster's over written, overwrought fingerprints are all over it.
Updated SWAG: Early Filers for 2012
November 18, 2011
Posted by AzBlueMeanie:
Time to update the "Silly Wild Ass Guess" (SWAG) list of who is running for office in 2012. The new district maps have not been approved and sent to DOJ, yet alone litigated in court, but there are a number of campaign committees for 2012 based upon current legislative districts. State law permits candidates to collect signatures in the current districts as well as in the new districts.
As you might expect, this list is going to be subject to change when new districts have been established. I am hoping that the Secretary of State will provide a conversion table for filing by current district and new district (hint, hint). And as always, candidates will come and go.
I will periodically update the list. You can follow along at home at the Arizona Secretary of State's web site Campaign Finance Search – Candidates.
Filer ID # beginning "2012" except where indicated (*). Some committees are exploratory committees.

That is what makes us
Best Q&A in the Mathis hearing
November 18, 2011
by David Safier I'm so glad Howie Fischer included this question-and-answer in his coverage of the decision to reinstate Mathis. It made my morning. Hauser told the justices the governor alone gets to decide what constitutes a firing offense, subject only to her getting consent of two-thirds of the Senate. That claim brought raised eyebrows
BREAKING: Arizona Supreme Court orders Colleen Mathis reinstated

The Arizona Republic reports Court orders reinstatement of redistricting official: The Arizona Supreme Court Thursday evening reinstated the chairwoman of the Arizona Independent Redistricting Commission, rebuffing Gov. Jan Brewer's unprecedented action earlier this month. The ruling came less than three hours after the court heard arguments on the
