Antonio Taguba (Maj. Gen., Ret.) says Bush officials committed war crimes

Posted by AzBlueMeanie:

The Army general who led the investigation into prisoner abuse at Iraq's Abu Ghraib prison has accused the Bush administration of committing "war crimes" and called for those responsible to be held to account.

The remarks by Maj. Gen. Antonio Taguba, who's now retired, came in a new report that found that U.S. personnel tortured and abused detainees in Iraq, Afghanistan and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, using beatings, electrical shocks, sexual humiliation and other cruel practices. General who probed Abu Ghraib says Bush officials committed war crimes

"After years of disclosures by government investigations, media accounts and reports from human rights organizations, there is no longer any doubt as to whether the current administration has committed war crimes," Taguba wrote. "The only question that remains to be answered is whether those who ordered the use of torture will be held to account."

Taguba, whose 2004 investigation documented chilling abuses at Abu Ghraib, is thought to be the most senior official to have accused the administration of war crimes. "The commander in chief and those under him authorized a systematic regime of torture," he wrote.

The group Physicians for Human Rights, which compiled the new report, described it as the most in-depth medical and psychological examination of former detainees to date.

Doctors and mental health experts examined 11 detainees held for long periods in the prison system that President Bush established after the 9-11 terrorist attacks. All of them eventually were released without charges.

The report, "Broken Laws, Broken Lives," concurs with a five-part McClatchy investigation of Guantanamo published this week. Among its findings were that abuses occurred — primarily at prisons in Afghanistan where detainees were held en route to Guantanamo — and that many of the prisoners were wrongly detained.

Detainee abuse has been documented previously, in photos from Abu Ghraib, accounts by former detainees and their lawyers and a confidential report by the International Committee for the Red Cross that was leaked to the U.S. news media.

  1. The United States annually spends more on its military than the rest of the world combined. Militarily we are the most powerful nation the world has ever known.

And you’re worried about a small number of local insurgents in Afghanistan and Pakistan who are largely supplied with old AK-47s, left-over shoulder launched rockets that we gave them to fight the Soviets, and implemented explovise devices? There is no large-scale, organized and disciplined army, navy or air force, and they have no means of sustainable industrial production to produce armaments and munitions — these guys ain’t the Soviets nor the Nazis or the Japanese Empire. Get a sense of proportion and reality. World domination — that’s just paranoid delusional talk.

  2. Islam is an Abrahamic religion: Jews, Muslims and Christians all share the same roots to the Old Testament books of the Bible which contain many ancient rules and edicts that would be offesive if not illegal today. Religion makes bad law.

It is not “quoting the Holy Qur’an” that makes you deranged, it is your frequent hyperventilating hate-filled rants with which you pollute the comment section of this blog site. I have told you before Dwight, get your own damn blog. I doubt anyone would read it.

  3. The small number of Radical Islamic terrorists who have set as their goal World Domination at 3 million is TWICE the size of ALL the Armed Forces of the United States; and most likely ALL the Nations of the free World Combined;(according to what forces are being provided through the United Nations to Afghanistan); so the “small number” as quoted by Mr. Meanie put into boots on the ground for Freedom loving Nations is quite large!

  4. Let me get this straight; quoting from the Holy Qur’an is being a “Deranged Individual?”

As for the “small number” of radical Islamic followers, lets see there are One and a half Billion people who practice Islamic teachings; just 3% would be 3 million who would be terrorists?

    Small number?

Besides Mr. Meanie, I asked you a question of how you would Defend The Pirates , knowing what The Holy Qur’an states about “Bounty of The High Seas as being there for the taking?”

  5. Francine, Francine, Francine —

“Nobama” is Dwight Leister. It sounds like he actually wants a crusade.

Clever attempt to parry from the cultural reference to Bugs Bunny: “what a maroon!”

  6. Francine Shacter

Meanie, s/he is not a maroon – that is a very delicious cookie!

As for radical Islamists who justify the integrity of their misguided radicalism by invoking “God”, you may wish to remind poor nobama about the inquisition, the crusades – doncha think????

I’m just trying to be helpful.

  7. You are one seriously deranged individual. Your conflating a small number of disaffected Islamic fundamentalist extremists with greater Islam (1.5 billion adherents) is truly offensive. This is comparable to conflating the Aryan Nation or Ku Klux Klan with all of Christianity. See how offensive that is?

Islam is not at war with the world, you maroon. There are a small number of fundamentalist extremists who want western influence out of historically Islamic regions of the world. They do not represent the majority view of Islamic opinion anywhere in the world.

You are apparently incapable of distinguishing between a news report I post and my commentary (for which there was none in this post).

  8. I read with great interest your comments.

Seems to me it would have been helpful if in the begining Congress would have defined what an enemy conbatant “IS” since they are not from any recognized Army and do NOT attack other Armies as a goal to kill but to kill citizens instead, using them as human shields.

At what point do we put our military in harms way trying to defeat people who have as a base radicallized Islamic teachings comming out of The Holy Qur”an?

For over 13 Centuries Islam has been at odds with anyone who is not of the word.

In the Qur”an Mr. Meanie let me run this Quote from SURAH 45 “Bowing the Knee.” and get your comment about Islamic Pirates and how they should be defended in a Court of Law as will be done in the Southern District of New York, in light of this directive from ALLAH!

You as a Lawyer are bound by The Rule Of Law ,although you swear an oath on the Bilble it is not TO DEFEND the Bible.

Now all of you reading this blog can see where I am comming from and how Islam IS at war with all of us, yet we grant rights to them that we do not grant to ourselves?

Your last paragraph brought red flags to my mind as you quoted ” Detainee abuse has been documented previously, in photos from Abu Ghraib, accounts by _former detainess and their lawyers_ and a confidential report by the international committee for the Red Cross that was leaked to the U.S. News Media.”

    The stories that came out of Iraq were slanted and written by the very people that have been tricking the World into submission for one reason and only one reason; to infiltrate our values and tear them down and work internall to destroy the basics of every nation state and instill Islam;

    SURAH 43: Gold Adornments:

#69;”(Being) those who have believed in Our Signs and bowed (their will to Ours)in Islam.”
