In a 217 to 215 vote along party lines, MAGA Republican House Members passed a budget resolution that steals funding in vital programs like Medicaid, Food Assistance, and Clean Energy programs from the poor and gives it in the form of plutocratic tax cuts to the richest who do not need it.
It also increases the annual budget deficit and national debt.
In a moving address, before voting began, House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries skillfully pushed back on the big lie that Republicans are good stewards of the economy and fiscal managers, reminding everyone that the former Party of Lincoln has, historically, done nothing but mismanage, since Reagan over 40 years ago, the nation’s finances, exploding the debt through a series of rich first tax cuts, unnecessary wars, and pandemic mismanagement.
This is one more reason history should be required to study in schools.
Members of the Arizona Democratic Congressional Reaction were quick to react on this, as Jeffries called, “Contract Against America” and “GOP Tax Scam.”
Representative Yassamin Ansari posted:
Earlier, Representative Ansari commented on why she would vote against the resolution, posting:
“ICYMI: Republicans want to take away your health care to partially fund tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans. Their budget includes the largest cuts to Medicaid in American history. I am obviously voting NO today.”
She also released the below video explaining her vote.
Representative Greg Stanton posted:
“The budget resolution that Republicans jammed through tonight—without a single Democratic vote—does two things:
- It cuts Medicaid for half a million Arizonans.
- It adds trillions to the deficit.
No one who voted yes can credibly claim to be either a budget hawk or someone who cares about protecting peoples’ health care ever again.”
Before the vote, Stanton posted the below video explaining why he would be voting no on the budget resolution.
JoAnna Mendoza, running to defeat Juan Ciscomani in Arizona CD Six posted this response to the MAGA Republican putting the greed of the rich over the needs of the working and middle class families in his district.
She also posted:
Earlier, Arizona’s Two Democratic Senators, Mark Kelly and Ruben Gallego, issued posts condemning how the Musk/Trump/Vance DOGE inquisition has purged over 6,000 veterans from their government positions.
Senator Kelly was especially livid over the purging of 1400 staff at the Veterans Administration that are responsible for caring for soldiers who are asked to risk their lives every day to protect this country and the American People.
This budget resolution and purge of dedicated public servants will not launch an American Golden Age or Make America Great Again.
If allowed to fester, all it will do is take this nation backward to a modern isolationist Gilded Age where only plutocrats thrive and Democracy’s enemies expand their influence around the world.
There will be two special elections in Florida and one in New York in the coming months. Democrats must do everything possible to overcome the MAGA party advantage in these districts and work to defy the odds and achieve victories in those races.
That will give House control back to the Democrats and they can stop the MAGA agenda from moving forward.
The ads do write themselves. Just picture a thirty-second ad where Democrats frame the Republican candidates as people who want to give Elon Musk and his billionaire buddies a tax cut while stealing from Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, Food Assistance, and the Prescription Drug Benefit to pay for it. Seniors in both Florida and New York are not going to like that.
