The Democrats of Greater Tucson announced its enthusiastic endorsement of the Democratic legislative team representing Arizona Legislative District 18: Priya Sundareshan, Nancy Gutierrez, and Chris Mathis.
The endorsements continue DGT’s longstanding support for progressive Democratic leadership in Tucson and Southern Arizona, following previous endorsements highlighted on DGT’s official endorsements page.
“Senator Priya Sundareshan, Representative Nancy Gutierrez and Representative Chris Mathis have delivered principled, energetic leadership for Tucson families,” said the Board of Democrats of Greater Tucson. “They have stood up for public education, voting rights, reproductive freedom, environmental protection and economic fairness at a time when extremist politics continue to threaten Arizona’s future.”
Arizona’s leading voices for Democratic values
LD18, centered in Tucson and the Catalina Foothills area, has become one of Arizona’s leading voices for Democratic values in the Legislature. See District information at https://www.pimadems.org/legislative-districts/ld18.
- Priya Sundareshan has emerged as a statewide Democratic leader while advocating for renewable energy, protecting water resources, fully funding our public schools, and lowering the cost of living. She currently serves as Democratic Leader in the Arizona Senate and Co-Chair of the Arizona Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee.
- Nancy Gutierrez, a longtime educator and advocate for public schools, has become a leading voice against attacks on Arizona public education and against the expansion of unaccountable ESA voucher spending. Nancy serves as the Assistant Minority Leader in the Arizona State House.
- Chris Mathis has built a reputation as a pro-choice, pro-education and pro-environment leader, while fighting Republican efforts to undermine democratic institutions. He is a member of the Natural Resources, Energy & Water Committee of the state Legislature.

Democrats of Greater Tucson noted that the LD18 delegation has consistently engaged with Democratic voters through community events, public forums and DGT programs over multiple election cycles. See the Blog for Arizona for more details.
“Our members know these legislators personally,” DGT said. “They show up. They listen. And most importantly, they fight every day for the people of Southern Arizona instead of corporate special interests and political extremism.”
DGT encourages Tucson-area Democrats and independent voters to support the LD18 Democratic ticket in the 2026 election cycle and help protect Democratic representation in the Arizona Legislature.
Democrats of Greater Tucson is the largest Democratic club in Pima County and a state‑registered political action committee. DGT celebrated its 47th year in 2026.
The club presents candidates and elected officials on Zoom every Monday at Noon, and holds a monthly Happy Hour at Brother John’s on the 4th Wednesday of every month.
