Governor Katie Hobbs Expands Affordable Child Care Access for Arizonans

Donald Trump may think spending money on ballrooms and arches dedicated to his memory is a higher priority than day care, but Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs has a different perspective on the main responsibility of public servants.

Helping people.

From Katie Hobbs social media.

In a series of executive actions yesterday as part of her Governor’s Bright Futures AZ initiative, Hobbs, who has presided over a state economy ranked second in the nation according to the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC), announced $3 million in grants for out-of-school time child care providers and the creation of a child care locator database.

She also announced, “that four nonprofit community lending organizations will receive more than $700,000 in funding to help child care microbusinesses grow the number of children they serve.”

Commenting in an office press release, Governor Hobbs said:

Child care is a lifeline for Arizona families. I’m proud that my administration is taking crucial steps to ensure Arizona families have access to affordable, high-quality options. We are providing tools for families to find child care more easily, creating new opportunities for out-of-school programming, and supporting small businesses that offer child care.”

Arizona Democratic House Leader Oscar De Los Santos.

Democratic House Leader Oscar De Los Santos commented to Blog for Arizona on the Governors announcement and how Legislative Democrats have worked for affordable child care, saying:

“At a time when families are struggling with the astronomical price of gas, housing, and health care, House Democrats stepped up and delivered the largest investment of general funds for child care assistance since the Great Recession. This funding will lower child care costs for thousands of families and allow thousands of parents to remain in the workforce.”

According to Governor Hobbs’s press release, the $3 million in grants will allow 59 providers to assist 59 providers to help 2500 children, aged five to twelve, get child care at reduced costs of up to two-thirds. Thirty percent of the funding will assist families in rural communities.

In a recent campaign quarterly financial disclosure, Governor Hobbs’ reelection campaign showed donations exceeding both of her main Republican opponents combined.

There is a reason for that.

Voters prefer candidates who work for them and help them move forward and thrive, as opposed to those who strive to help only the affluent while keeping others in financial distress.

Governor Hobbs is doing that while her two Republican opponents, Andy Biggs and David Schweikert, have repeatedly shown they couldn’t care less.
