I will caution readers once again that the "short list" claimed by the media villagers in the Beltway Bubble is not the White House "short list," which is held closely to the vest. So this may be purely speculative on the part of the media villagers.
Nevertheless, Huffington Post reports that both MSNBC and ABC News are reporting that former Arizona Governor and Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano is now being added to President Obama's shortlist as David Souter's replacement on the Supreme Court. Before her Obama appointment, Napolitano served as governor of Arizona, as well as Arizona attorney general. As a lawyer at the Phoenix-based firm Lewis and Roca LLP, Napolitano represented Anita Hill in her sexual harassment suit against then-Supreme Court nominee Clarence Thomas.
Napolitano's name was not originally mentioned as a Supreme Court pick, although her name has now been added to a list that includes Sonia Sotomayor of the 2nd Circuit, Diane Wood of the 7th Circuit, Solicitor General Elena Kagan, Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm and Merrick Garland of the DC Circuit Court of Appeals.
I don't see this as a realistic probability. Judge Sonia Sotomayor and Solicitor General Elena Kagan are the names most frequently mentioned in discussion. But anything is possible.
