A group of about 10 vulnerable Democrats in the U.S. House of Representatives is floating the idea of censuring President Donald Trump instead of impeaching him. Arizona Rep. Tom O’Halleran is NOT part of that group, Arizona’s Politics has learned.
Politico reported on the Democrats – running for re-election in districts that voted for Trump in 2016 – this afternoon. Rep. O’Halleran (D-CD1) is in such a district, covering a wide swath of eastern Arizona; however, he has not joined the pro-censure cadre.
Communications Director Kaitlin Hooker tells Arizona’s Politics that “Rep. O’Halleran is not a member of this group. He is waiting for the Judiciary Committee to advance the articles of impeachment to the full House before making a final determination.”
O’Halleran did tell the Politico reporters last week that he “would prefer that we stick to what we have,” meaning that any Articles of Impeachment NOT include counts related to past conduct such as detailed in the Mueller Report.
O’Halleran is co-chair of the Blue Dog Democrats, a coalition of moderate to conservative Democrats in Congress.
