Clapping like Stalin, Donald Trump strutted onto the stage like Mussolini and delivered a speech that could have easily been given in the 1930s totalitarian Russia, Italy, or Germany.
Using religious nationalist overtones that Spain’s Franco would have admired, Mr. Trump, who became the first felon, twice impeached former President, and the person found liable for sexual assault to be nominated by a major American Party for President, described the attempted assassination on his life, mesmerizing his gathered MAGA flock to the point where he said: “I stand before you in this arena by the grace of Almighty God.”
I guess God did not think much of bestowing his grace on Corey Comperatore, the fireman who heroically shielded his family from the bullet that killed him at the Trump rally.
Yet the people in the MAGA crowd were eating all this up, not making the logical connection between Trump’s messianic boasts and the death of the fallen husband and father.
After saying at the beginning he wanted to be a President for “All of America,” the real Trump, in monotone, surfaced after his rendition of the attempted assassination (Something he said he would only talk about once. Bull Fecal Matter. He’ll be talking about that at every rally from here until November.)
Continuing his long address with rambling and self-absorbed precision, he said unity is only possible if the Democrats drop “all the partisan witch hunts” on him. He continued using the left wing of the political spectrum as a scapegoat for all the country’s divisions, cheating him on elections, and persecuting him.
Of course, he does not mention his 34 convictions, being found liable for sexual assault and business fraud, and his role in the attack on the Nation’s Capitol on January 6, 2021.
He went after Nancy Pelosi, calling her crazy, referred to President Biden as weak, and falsely claimed that they are destroying the country.
It should be noted that recent polling by the nation’s most renowned historians put Donald Trump last among all American Presidents. Joe Biden is in the top third.
He said that we were on the verge of going into World War III.
He lied (what else is new) about building most of the southern border wall with Mexico. He also spoke again of the dreaded ‘other’ that all totalitarians do to whip up their followers into a frenzy falsely accusing migrants of taking away citizens’ jobs and their Social Security funds. He also lied (again) about migrants being released and escaped prisoners and asylum patients. He talked about launching mass deportations.
People need to remember that Trump killed a bipartisan deal on border security in the hopes that it would help him politically.
He said he would cut taxes and reduce the debt.
It did not happen under Reagan. It did not happen under Bush II. It did not happen in Trump’s first term.
He went after the United Auto Workers Union and its leadership. Hopefully, that will influence who the Teamsters Union endorses and the voters in Michigan.
Thinking of electric vehicles, he called them AI and claimed they would need “twice the electricity available.”
He said he would fight to reduce taxes on tips. Talk about Johny coming lately. Democrats are already supporting that idea.
He resumed calling the Coronavirus “The Chinese Virus.” He did not mention his part in mismanaging the handling of COVID-19 and tanking the national economy as a result.
He made the false assertion that the world was at peace when he left the White House. Wrong again.
He said he was going to put Tom Homan, the main crafter of Project 2025 in charge and watch. So much for not knowing anything about the MAGA version of Mein Kampf and The Handmaid’s Tale.
He repeated his false claims that the nation’s major cities are hotbeds of crimes. Recent statistical data suggests otherwise and crime has fallen from the highest levels in the last year of his Presidency.
He spoke about Hannibal Lecter, said he thinks North Korea’s KimJong Un misses him, told Scott Walker he was doing a great job as Wisconsin Governor (he has not been since 2019,) thought he was still President and sending federal money to Wisconsin, and claimed that he could end wars with one telephone call.
Someone else needs to take that cognitive test.
He is like this in all his stump speeches. Maybe he should withdraw since he can not put together rational coherent reality-based thoughts.
So much for unity. So much for a new tone to bring the American People together.
This speech is not going to win Independents and Undecided Voters.
It was a base speech written for his adoring MAGA apostles who do not know any better.
Nothing more.
The Biden/Harris Campaign, judging from social media traffic during this address, is in fact check heaven with all the bull fecal matter Trump spread out this evening.
Biden/Harris Campaign Co-Chairperson Jen O’Malley Dillon released a statement on the Trump ramblings that read:
“Tonight, Donald Trump rambled on for well over an hour and failed to mention Project 2025 even once. He failed to mention how he had inflicted pain and cruelty on the women of America by overturning Roe v Wade. He failed to mention his plan to take over the civil service and to pardon the January 6th insurrectionists. He sought to find problems with America, not to provide solutions. But after all, it was Donald Trump who destroyed our economy, ripped away rights, and failed middle-class families. Now he pursues the presidency with an even more extreme vision for where he wants to take this country. Trump’s Project 2025 agenda is the single biggest attack on our personal freedoms and way of life ever proposed in modern American history.”
“President Biden is running on a different vision. He’s running for an America where we defend democracy, not diminish it. Where we restore our rights and protect our freedoms, not take them away. One where we create opportunities for everyone while making the super-wealthy finally pay their fair share. That is the future President Biden believes in and is the future that millions of our fellow Americans believe in too. The stakes have never been higher. The choice has never been more clear. President Biden is more determined than ever to defeat Donald Trump and his Project 2025 agenda in November.”
Arizona Democratic Party Chairwoman Yolanda Bejarano also released a statement, reacting to Trump’s speech.
“Trump’s agenda is extreme and would be disastrous for Americans. Despite lying about his involvement in Project 2025, Trump is complicit in this same agenda that would ban abortion nationwide, hurt the middle class, and that poses the greatest threat to Democracy in decades because it would give him power like no president has ever had. Arizonans won’t forget that it’s because of Trump that the lives of millions of women were thrown into chaos by the 1864 abortion ban. Arizonans won’t forget how Trump separated immigrant families. Arizonans won’t forget how his MAGA loyalists already tried to take away our voice and our vote. A second Trump presidency will be worse as he will make good on his promise to be a dictator on “day one.” The stakes couldn’t be clearer: President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris will fight for our rights and democracy and we will make sure they’re elected once again.”
In fact, this whole convention that featured convicted felons, MAGA fanatics, and reality-challenged presenters was four days of nothing more than the usual Fascist-Reactionary-White Christian Nationalist Messaging themes the American People have heard since The American Duce first descended the escalator at Trump Tower in 2015.
There is nothing remotely unifying or uplifting about it unless, as the Lincoln Project said in a recent article, you are a White Evangelist Male subscriber to Project 2025.
It is time for Democrats to quit this counterproductive squabbling, unify, and beat this bastard, and his Congressional allies, and stop their threat to the American Republic by 20 points this November.
Time to get to work.

It didn’t take you long to get back to the violent-provoking speech.
You obviously missed the speech from your Duce last night, John.
I do have a question for you John. Do you stand for the Republic and Democracy or do you stand with the convicted felon, sexual assaulter, person who took women’s health care freedom away, and told his followers to attack the Nation’s Capitol on January 6, 2021? There is really only one answer to this.
