Keep in mind that if Republicans were to recapture the House of Representatives, this is the man who would most likely become Speaker of the House.

Rep. John Boehner trivialized 8 million unemployed and the worst economic recession since the Great Depression, and he is sticking with the failed conservative philosophy of deregualtion of the financial services sector which nearly destroyed the world's financial system and economy. The Republican plan is more of the same: stay the course of failed GOP economic policies. In a new interview with the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-OH) blasts Democrats for everything from health care reform to the BP response to financial reform. “They’re snuffing out the America that I grew up in,” Boehner said, adding, “There’s a political rebellion brewing, and I don’t think we’ve seen anything like it since 1776.” [Shameless shout-out to Teabaggers.] Taking up the GOP agenda of defending big business at all costs, he compared the financial crisis to an “ant” and criticized Congress for passing financial reform, which he likened to a “nuclear weapon“:

Boehner criticized the financial regulatory overhaul compromise reached last week between House and Senate negotiators as an overreaction to the financial crisis that triggered the recession. The bill would tighten restrictions on lending, create a consumer protection agency with broad oversight power and give the government an orderly way to dissolve the largest financial institutions if they run out of money.

“This is killing an ant with a nuclear weapon,” Boehner said. What’s most needed is more transparency and better enforcement by regulators, he said.

UPDATE: In his press briefing [yesterday], White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said Boehner was “opening one’s mouth and removing most of the doubt that you’re completely out of touch with America.” He added, “It demonstrates how out of touch you are currently and it demonstrates exactly the type of mindset that he would bring to leading the House of Representatives.”

UPDATE: The DNC’s latest web ad, “Ants? Really John Boehner?”  hits Boehner for his comments this week that the financial crisis was tantamount to an “ant” and that the President’s plan to reform Wall Street was like “killing an ant with a nuclear weapon.”
