Saying “Our Best Days Are Here,” Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego Sworn In for Second Full Term

In a speech filled with tributes to families, colleagues and friends, a list of accomplishments during her tenure, and a desire to steer the fifth largest city in the country toward tomorrow, Kate Gallego was sworn in for her second term as Phoenix Mayor earlier today.

Urging her colleagues on the City and in the audience “To keep up the momentum and seize (our best days,) Mayor Gallego discussed her vision for a second full term as Phoenix’s Chief Executive.

The Mayors remarks start about 42.44 into the video.

Among the programs she outlined she would like to pursue in her inaugural address was:

  • Increasing child care and early child education opportunities through organizations like Head Start.
  • Continuing Phoenix’s expansion in the bio medical, sustainability, and technological areas complete with increased apprenticeship training and good paying job opportunities.
  • Expanding affordable housing and reducing homelessness.
  • Continuing to reform and expand public safety.

Saying Phoenix is currently “Standing on strong foundations,” the Mayor said, “Phoenix is and always has been a place where everyone regardless of their background can write their own story and in a time where the word government makes too many people in this country. Grimace Phoenix is a shining example of the magic that can happen when leaders focus on delivering results for their communities rather than scoring cheap political wins against each other.”

Gallego, after paying tribute to her father and late mother ended her remarks with:

“…Each of us is guided by our own inspirations. We’re lucky to live in a place where we can turn our collective ambition and dreams into reality. Phoenix, let’s keep up the momentum. We’ve created, let’s challenge one another to think, better, bigger and brighter. Most of all, let’s keep looking out for each other. I used to say our best days are ahead but our best days are here and they are here to stay so let’s seize them.”
